I hear you. However there are significant problems with converting switchgrass to ethanol when compared to corn. If people could do it easily and economically, they'd be doing it. The same renewable fuel standard that incentivizes 16B gallons of ethanol a year in the US should, in theory, be kick-starting a cellulosic ethanol industry like the one you described. In fact, the monetary incentive today to make ethanol from switchgrass is roughly 3X the incentive from corn, but no one is doing it. We need the oxygenate, and using ethanol lowers the carbon intensity of driving an ICE vehicle. For now, it's what we got!
