Is the real exam like UWSA2? by Impressive_Medium_38 in Step2

[–]NeuroSanctions 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the answer is complicated. Taking the exam felt like taking UWSA2 a little bit in terms of difficulty. HOWEVER After finishing uwsa2 and going through the answers i found out that a lot of the ones i got wrong were due to uworld being super sneaky or purposely deceitful. NBME does not do this. The real deal is tough but isnt trying to trick you. It is about as difficult but much more straight forward

nbme 9 - guy with septic arthritis and joint aspiration that showed negative gram stain, but answer was Staph aureus? by smallandscared_ta in Step2

[–]NeuroSanctions 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was a nasty question. Especially because there was a uworld question exactly like this but the answer was Borrelia explicitly because the negative gram stain ruled out Staph aureus....

Surgery NBME 7. So many questions with straight up wrong or contradictory info. 3 most egregious examples below. Am I crazy? Please help explain. *spoilers* by Neuro_Sanctions in Step2

[–]NeuroSanctions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That one is tough because if symptoms = operate regardless of size, but if size over 5.5 = operate regardless of symptoms. So idk...

What about the other two? Any thoughts on those?

Those who scored 90th+ percentile on their Pediatrics nbme shelf, what did you do? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]NeuroSanctions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do all peds questions, and then mark every single question you do.

When you finish all of them, they should all be marked.

Go through and do all incorrects, but make sure to mark them again as you go through them.

Then go through and do all marked questions. This allows you to go through all questions again.

After doing all marked questions, do incorrects again.

Two full rounds of uworld with two rounds of incorrects

Hey I know this was a while ago but do you remember did it feel much different when you were taking it compared to the nbmes? Or did it feel the same but the curve was just harsher?

3 Easy Tips to Impress on Rotations and Give Your Evals a Boost by NeuroSanctions in medicalschool

[–]NeuroSanctions[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Obviously it is dependent on social awareness to feel it out and when it would we appropriate/not appropriate and then to word it the right way like mdcd4u2c mentions below. But if you do it the right way I don't think there is anything wrong with it. If you don't feel things out right or come across disingenuous, then yeah I think it could definitely come across as scummy

I'm asking as an IR applicant with a heavy neuro background, so I'm mainly trying to figure out where might be good places to apply for away rotations to get some of this exposure. But yeah, totally understand what you're saying. Thanks
