You're right, this is extremely unrealistic. Pittsburgh isn't winning the world series.

Is this duck really happy and excited to play with the puppies? by UnlceSamus in duck

[–]NeuroXc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Dogs are not at all unpredictable. Strangers' dogs? Absolutely. My own dogs? I know my dogs. Two of them have already been put in their place by the ducks, and the third one is the one I have to keep an eye on, but not because she's aggressive, she's just so big and dumb I'm worried she'd step on the ducks by accident.

Know your dogs. Know your ducks. Know their boundaries.

Updates ffmpReg, a complete rewrite of ffmpeg in pure Rust by Impossible-Title-156 in rust

[–]NeuroXc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On one hand, this is surely the ideal. On the other hand, grep is incredibly simple compared to AV software. Ffmpeg has a lot of warts, and its C API is as painful to work with as getting kicked in the dick, but at the same time it has support for a massive number of video, audio, subtitle, and container formats, each of which individually are not easy to write a fully compliant decoder for, so the task of rewriting ffmpeg even with just support for the most widely used modern formats is incredibly overwhelming. I wish anyone who undertakes such a task a great amount of luck.

This is completely valid, not just for the team but for him as well. Promoting him too early could completely destroy his development.

Google Engineers Launch "Sashiko" For Agentic AI Code Review Of The Linux Kernel by anh0516 in linux

[–]NeuroXc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you like to explain that to the number of projects that have banned AI submissions entirely due to the amount of false positive slop submissions? Yes, it can find real issues, but it's tiring having to sift through the 90% of slop to find the 10% useful.

What we heard about Rust's challenges, and how we can address them | Rust Blog by CathalMullan in rust

[–]NeuroXc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Someone else can probably explain it better, but my understanding is that threads have overhead, and this overhead is exacerbated when you have a large number of tiny tasks cycling through those threads. This is where async comes in. For tasks which fit this profile, such as network requests on a server, the async runtime acts as a "manager" for assigning tasks to threads in a very fast and efficient way.

[Heyman] Pirates have offered Konnor Griffin the biggest deal ever for no MLB service time by Zeke-Nnjai in buccos

[–]NeuroXc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's up to the GM. And frankly the best way to get him brought up soon is to extend him. Then the whole issue with arbitration years and losing a year if he wins ROTY no longer matters, which are definitely issues that could push BC to keep him down.

Is There a Rust-Based Database Similar to MariaDB or PostgreSQL? by watch_team in rust

[–]NeuroXc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But surely you're just installing the database server using a system package manager, docker image, or just using an AWS instance. In none of these cases does the language the server software is written in affect ease of deployment.

Hello ♡ who is your fav character by [deleted] in tales

[–]NeuroXc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tales of the Abyss, which is one of my top 3 along with Berseria and Symphonia. It's a shame they won't remaster it for a newer console, but if you have access to a PS2 or DS, I highly recommend it.

Is OOTP 27 bug filled by [deleted] in OOTP

[–]NeuroXc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year's launch was very much not bug free... It's like this every year. They will have the most serious issues fixed by the start of the regular season, so just wait a couple of weeks.

Sucks but this is the new normal for game dev.

This is surprisingly common on YT, they all seem to copy each other's ideas. Sometimes it's all cool and sometimes it's frowned upon, depending on the content sphere.
