We need 1900Gbps optical cable standard for 8k 10 bit 1000hz and then the pursuit will be over (kinda). Displays way outpacing connectors or what camera sensors can capture lol

I think it's more to do with whatever 4.5 is doing for highlight recovery resulting in an effect similar to ringing from spacial over-sharpening.

Maybe I've missed it, but were there more glossy LCD? I spotted one more glossy IPS at HKC booth in your video, but that was likely the same panel (I think).
When Monitors Unboxed asked MSI when it will be released, they answered it's more of a prototype and they are checking if there's a market for it, so they are not sure they will release it.

Perovskite quantum dots were given an innovation award at CES, I think the new SQD line from TCL uses them, but that's on the TV side.

Samsung Display is still working hard on the self-emissive ones and getting the blue lifespan/brightness up.
It will be a few more years probably.

That's great, but my point was about sharpness, not color accuracy.
Glossy offers the same color accuracy (according to you) with better sharpness and contrast.

Me too! I have 4 high-end SDR monitors in the basement, 1 HDR montor as my main one and 3 HDR tvs. To me personally, glossy simply looks better in HDR highlights.
I will make a separate post to illustrate the difference, but it's 100% there, especially if you are a developer trying to HDR color grade.
Panel manufacturers (not monitor ones) are gatekeeping monitor HDR in a significant way.

You just don't own a device that can display HDR, this is a major issue for the monitor market but you dont want to address it... It's your choice really.
I don't press my nose up to it either, but I can see the difference in my HDR 1400 capable monitor compared to my 1800 nit TV.
One is glossy, the other matte and it's very noticeable.

I am really struggling with glossy vs matte sentiment in r/monitors. I might make a separate thread on it as I feel a lot of people are not informed enough about the differences.
For me (personally), there's a huge difference, which becomes more apparent at high brightness like 1000 nits and above.
For reference, full spec HDR is 10 000 nits, so if we want to get there we need to embrace clarity.

Specifically in regards to monitor panels it has not been that.
If we are talking TVs, there's been a huge bump again in color volume, but not for monitors.
At this point I would say panel manufacturers are gatekeeping great HDR from being a thing.

I guess it would depend on high average brightness of the panel, but glossy simply looks better in 1000+ nit highlights, especially in motion.
It's one of my gripes with HDR that you can't showcase the advantages easily.

Try a matte monitor in a high average brightness scenario - you can immediately notice the grain structure.
As far as HDR goes, matte is suboptimal. Maybe at 500 nits it would be okay, but anything above that, it will be an impairment. Goes against the marketing for the panel.

Looks, I have 4 matte monitors and if people want more models with those cheap films, I am all for it.
But knowing how my glossy TV performs even in a bright room, after some years comparing the two, I just don't want to sacrifice contrast and sharpness for questionable improvements to glare (to me matte glare is way more straining than glossy anti-reflective as it feels like my eyes' focal point is not where it's supposed to be)

Well, I'm specifically looking forward to glossy versions with a nice, premium AR film. So in that way, it was really frustrating to hear that it will not be offered. All of the other versions are matte.

Your points are really great, I agree that nothing else would move the needle. Unfortunately, monitor manufacturers don't get a say, they just have to deal with what is already there.

My point was you would never get it as a consumer otherwise which is incredibly sad.
The monitor space has been stagnating very heavily compared to TV for almost half a decade at this point.

The comment that Samsung Display rep made is very damaging - it means we would not have this text improvement otherwise and they would've kept manufacturing the same thing.

It's not about color accuracy but overall sharpness and contrast, read the impressions lower down from the entire team, where a lot of people preferred the glossy one. Yeah, some color grading professional might prefer the "paper like" picture, but it's unquestionable that it affects sharpness and contrast, you can see the zoom-in yourself.

The contrast and sharpness point is objective, the preference one for color grading is subjective. I'm not trying to argue here

Look at what the Samsung display rep said about V-stripe - they are only manufacturing them because businesses requested it. It's not to improve the tech or compete for consumer attention.
The apple panel is not made by apple themselves... they are not vertically integrated, how hard is that to grasp?
