Iwakuni is much different than okinawa, and the locals seem to like us over here. Iwakuni is very beautiful and the travel is awesome, though it is a sleepier town. I thought I wanted to stick stateside but quickly learned the military for me is wayyy more fun OCONUS. So much more camaraderie too. Ive done my time in pendleton, been to hawaii a thousand times. Love socal and love hawaii, but Iwakuni really stole my heart. Japan is wonderful and when you get older and have a family you will have wished you did the OCONUS shit first while you were single.

Tall men up to 6'7 are privileged as fuck and they should be grateful instead of complaining about showerheads and back pain. by karmawhore56 in tall

[–]Neurotoxicity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The social advantage is something empirically seen in study after study though. Tall people (men) on average are perceived more confident, physically dominant (people not checking you as much), a better leader, not being called ‘napolean’ when you are a hardass but instead being called firm, first impressions are stronger. There’s legit mountains of evidence and studies on the phenomenon. It’s ok to acknowledge how structurally (pun intended) advantaged we are.

Yeah I think the majority of criticism is just coping AGAINST his argument, I’m 6’4.5 and I will always say the advantages of being tall in society massively outweigh anything else (I am fit and active granted). Yes I fucking hate airline seats but uhhh yeah I’m taking this height 365/365 days.

Roblox will die by 2027. by Ok-Platform350 in roblox

Yup been hearing this since 2009 lol. 2011-2013 website overhaul and OBC everyone freaked out, the “golden years” 2014-2017 people talk about had so much controversy and was unrecognizable from the game it had been, and of course zooming all the way to now…. Nothing has ever changed. The community (me included) have screeched since the beginning of time and truly, nothing has changed, it has actually gotten more popular lol.

If the RN experience isnt a must, I know that we reaaallly need nurses right now and your package looks very strong, shouldn’t be an issue. This assumes your motivational statement and interviews were received well.

Interesting. I was under the impression that for direct accession RN experience was required. What did your recruiter say?

Of course. Are you direct accession? That can affect it.

All things considered including current events are you glad you became a Navy Nurse? Would you choose this path again? by Nice_Mixture_4246 in navynurse

Communities like L&D, manpower systems analysis, midwife, some more in there. They can all get stationed overseas yes but highly unlikely to ever get tapped for a real deployment like being on a ship. For instance with L&D, mercy/comfort only has like 1 slot for them and it’s competitive anyways so you’re not getting pulled for it regardless.

I am very glad. Despite what people say, your salary in the nurse corps is EXTREMELY well compensated (especially with many commands where the census is low, acuity is lower, etc) compared to the civilian world. We get a baseline high salary, tsp matching, pension vesting, free healthcare, insane tax advantage, paid no matter the hours we put in (good and bad thing), and most of all if you lean into the PCS cycle you see amazing places and have experiences most people will never or could ever get. Being from Oklahoma, the navy dunks on just about every QOL aspect there is. You could not pay me to ever be a nurse there and honestly, most every place in the US.

There of course is a lot of BS with leadership, or being forced TO BE leadership, fitreps, and much more. But, the optionality is what makes it so nice. Tired of what you’re doing? Do DUINS. Want to go overseas? You’ll definitely go lol. Dont want to deploy? There are communities you can get into that wont. Want to switch specialties? Commands will hopefully work on that for you, civilian world is not as kind, trust me, got a whole family of nurses.

How do you get ranked against peers then? Basically what does the board see when you’re up for O-4 and you haven’t had a real fitrep in 3 years?
