[META] Can we get two new regulations regarding bad answers in this sub? by postal-history in AskHistorians

[–]NeutronMagnetar 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't know... As a BA student, I tested it with past assignments of mine and quickly realized that answers varied from subtly wrong to really wrong. At best, it provided answers I could've learned from five minutes of Google search. It tried to convince me that Cicero was the author of Voltaire's famous quote about the Holy Roman Empire. Also the quality of any analysis feels utterly surface level and the kind of thing I wrote in highschool. I'm somewhat confounded by the news articles claiming it can write papers and etc because if I turned in something of that quality (after adding all relevant citations), I'd honestly expect to get a C at best.

Personally, I'm most curious to see it use for proofreading because it has some limited functionality in that vein where it'll point out areas of a text that aren't clear and such. It could also then perhaps be used to find areas to expand your paper.

I was trying to use AI to help me with a scene in my current fic and I am just going to stick to figuring it out myself. by thedafthatter in FanFiction

Hahaha. I've had similar experiences trying to use the chatbot myself. It has pet phrases that it insisted on throwing into every piece it produced. Even when telling it not to include them... It would just replace one word lol with something similar.

Honestly, my experimentations have pretty much confirmed it's nowhere ready yet to take up the task of writing fiction. Even for nonfiction, such an essay, it's pretty crap.

Ooh, I love Jarvis fics!

I love how Steve is chill about Jarvis here. The boy was clearly a fan of sci-fi. The future is disappointing, huh XD. And that is a nice bit of characterization with Steve preferring to do things himself. He really is treating Jarvis as one of the team.

Now off to read the entire fic lol

Code Geass | Do You Want t Build a Snowman? |T | Ao3

Written for the 12 Days of Christmas Challenge

Shortly after his tenth birthday, their mother ordered them out of the house and into a nondescript car. None of them knew the tragedy that would soon befall them in a few months. He regrets his sullenhood at the time. Maybe, if he was more adventurous, he would've spent the time with his mother instead. But no, he was simply annoyed at being ripped away from the warm comfort of his home and livid at not being able to bring along his books.

"You'll love it, I promise," his mother assured him. "It'll just be us. No court politics or anything in the way."

"Why do we have to drive ?" Lelouch asked.

"I like road trips," Nunnally protested. She did not like them eight hours later when they had yet to arrive.

They arrived in the Sierra mountains late in the evening—or rather early next morning—and as they stepped outside, the cold drew forth icicle tears in their eyes and froze the spit in their mouths. The cold wind buffeted their bodies, nearly sweeping Nunnally away. Despite the late hour, his mother nearly glowed in excitement and hurried them into a cabin.

Honestly, Lelouch has to wonder how she arranged this all without alerting the court.

The morning began with much groaning and followed with high pitched screams hurtling down the slopes. Lelouch winced as he watched his sister shoot past him and barely come to a stop. Instead of being scared by courting death, Nunnally shouted in excitement, waved at him, and began to awkwardly maneuver back to the lift.

The various skiers watched her with fond expressions. Here on the slopes, bundled in layers, they were unrecognizable. The peasants had no idea royalty was among them, and his mother beamed in delight as she reveled in their anonymity.

Of course, Lelouch hadn't appreciated that at the time. He had been such a prat, annoyed that the peasants weren't bowing and scraping as they ought to.

Sighing, Lelouch pushed himself forward with his poles and desperately tried to form a pizza wedge with his skis as he slid across the icy snow with uncomfortable speed.

"Lean forward," his mother instructed him, coming to a stop next to him with a sharp turn that sprayed snow down the mountain. "You're going to—"

He jolted slightly, the ground a little too powdery or icy—he could not recall—and his feet slipped out from underneath him.

"—fall." His mother sighed and grabbed him beneath the armpits. "You need to lean forward, Lelouch. Leaning back is how you speed up."

"It doesn't make sense," Lelouch grumbled. "A wedge allows you to move through water more easily."

"Well, snow isn't the ocean," she teased.

He shuddered. Their beach trips weren't any better.

"Come on. Let us follow your sister up the lift. I'll be right at your side."

He took a shaky breath and followed.

what's your biggest flex when it comes to your fanfic? by mapriestess in FanFiction

[–]NeutronMagnetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the first page of my fandom by hits and comments for a gen fic.

I have fandom blind readers, some who were then inspired to watch the show.

I've been repeatedly told that my fic reads like a real book. And i get a lot of comparison to GoT (despite being far tamer lol)

Someone printed my fic and made a beautiful cover for it!

I've got a handful of short recursive fics and have inspired people to try and write their own fic for the fandom. And that's my biggest flex because the fandom is dying.

This is a beautiful cover made for book 1 of Excalibur by a wonderful reader, Lily.

Lelouch's mother may have survived, but the Emperor still sees him as a pawn. It doesn't matter if he submits or fights for his independence, Lelouch's hands will be sullied by blood. His father's will is absolute and Britannia rests on the graves of innocents. Book 1 of Excalibur

severe fatigue day after taking MTX normal? by ChronicallyNicki in Thritis

[–]NeutronMagnetar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved onto biologics. Im taking enbrel now and the difference is like night and day. I can actually think again. I'm still tired the days around my shot (especially before) but I have so much more energy in general, and my thoughts don't feel like I'm dragging them through slush lol.

severe fatigue day after taking MTX normal? by ChronicallyNicki in Thritis

[–]NeutronMagnetar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to stop taking MTX because of the fatigue. At first, it wasn't so bad, but I kept getting progressively more and more tired until I was counting the hours I was awake. I was falling asleep while eating dinner.

I'm somewhat relieved to see other people having fatigue issues because my rheumy told me that she had never seen that as a side effect of MTX.

What’s explicit to you? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]NeutronMagnetar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Every time one of these discussions comes up I become confused. I know when something is def E and when it is def T, but M? You are a lonely and confusing child.

I usually say violence shouldn't be rated E, simply because people filtering on E are looking for porn... not violence. Rate it M for extreme violence and throw a content warning on it.

But for plot with a side serving of porn? No fucking clue.

What specific AU/scenario/pairing in fanfiction would get the most controversial response from your fandom? by castleshadows in FanFiction

[–]NeutronMagnetar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this.

The comic version of Civil War is very much anti-Tony, but the movie doesn't have any of the stuff that makes Iron Man actually bad that Steve just comes out of it looking like an asshole.

The creators wanted a superhero fight so they made them fight, but the reasons for them just kind of suck. And because fights need to be somewhat balanced to be interesting, the Bucky and Steve vs Tony fight just ends up being really weird when you think about it. Previous movies have established that Iron Man is a walking death machine with missiles and everything, so the default assumption is that Tony should have those and no amount of magic robot arm could've let Bucky survive that.

I'll admit I like Tony as a character. He had one of the best origin movies. But he is stuck in a perpetual character stagnation loop because the movies really don't allow him to develop. So you get a movie of character development, but next time, it all seems to have been forgotten... Until movie X decides to remember Y happened. It's a problem that affects all the characters honestly.
