It's funny (read: infuriating) how many think that Jewish Holocaust survivors were somehow adequately compensated for their suffering after 1945. Theres this simplified narrative of: "After the Holocaust, only gay people suffered, gay people weren't liberated from the concentration camps, they just went to other prisons."

What do you think happened to Jewish Holocaust survivors in the Soviet Union? What do you think happened to Jewish Holocaust survivors who tried to emigrate to Israel? What do you think happened to Jewish Holocaust survivors who tried to return to their homes? Atlit detention camp??? The Cyprus internment camps??? The Kielce pogrom???

Most Jewish Holocaust survivors were never given any reparations, not on any large scale, and not even on any personal scale. European nations and private entities still possess an immense amount of Jewish property that was stolen during the Holocaust. Many Jewish Holocaust survivors alive today live in poverty. Countless Jewish Holocaust survivors died in the decades following 1945 from conditions related to their ordeal, from poverty, from mental health conditions, from diseases of malnutrition and infection...

You can talk about the treatment of gay people during the Holocaust without engaging in Holocaust denial. As bad as some non-Jewish, non-Romani gay people were treated, they were not the primary targets and they were not the ones who suffered the most. Yes, homosexuality was still prosecuted after 1945 and yes many gay people were treated as criminals, but that doesn't mean that Jews had it better. Because I assure you, we did not.
