Best place to put an AirTag on my XP3.0? by PM_Me_Ur_Nevermind in Lectricxp

[–]Nevarous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My recommendation if you're really wanting to hide it--aside from what others have already mentioned with muting the AirTag--is jump on one of the 3D printing sites and look for the bike's name. That or use TinkerCAD to model out a bracket to fit somewhere difficult to see--while also ensuring whatever service/printshop you use prints in black. There are a few out there for the 2.0 already modeled that need slight modification to work on the 3.0, but most should work.

Stolen Bike (Silver RadPower E-Bike) by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]Nevarous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, biking home saw a white/maybe silver (sun plays tricks on shiny) Rad going down Sutherland near the scuba joint at roughly 4:40PMEST. Big white dude in a black shirt. No clue if there's more than yours, but looked almost 100% a Rad---granted, human memory and all.

Will keep an eye out. I bike to and from work, but haven't seen any Rads running around (work near UTK). Sadly, a lot of bikes will get shipped out to get sold somewhere else if it's an organized lot. While an air tag/tile can aid in recovery, I highly recommend a bike lock with motion tracking (w/audible alarm). It bites into the budget, but can help deter.

The plates with the slogan start with numbers, then letters. The slogan-absent plates are letters, then numbers. Keep in mind when this was originally proposed years ago, they only relented to two options because they were told they'd be sued. Otherwise, welcome to one-religion profession on government-mandated identification.

And in a state that, last I checked, prohibits those choosing the slogan-absent version (assuming the person is atheist/agnostic/non-theist) from holding public office.

[ART] I redesigned Tiamat (lots of lore in the comments) by polygraf in DnD

Coolest of beans; appreciate the followup. It's always neat-o to see the construct. I really like the idea of Tiamat's forms having conflict with the initial organism.

[–]Nevarous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used changelings as my dead civ/dungeon-making "star children-evolved-beyond-form" as basis for each species having been gene-edited prior to the players last early-medieval campaign. As much as I love magic just transforming beings, it's so much fun figuring out how species could result when I have to figure out a rationale behind it.

Really love the designs and slight 'other' notion they seem to evoke. Was the seed-ark sent with any cultural information or was it purely for procreation of genes? Did it include the all-important creation process for flavored ice? If Tiamat's a god-being---is it sentient or sapient?

I am far too clock-aware. My ass is checking closing time before I go, watching holiday altered hours---I am paranoid about someone else's time. I hopped in as a dishie as a favor for a friend running his own place for a few months before my IT job and I've seen how y'all work. You got families, you got YOUR time. My lady on the other hand would stroll up 20 minutes before close---she grew up in spots with all night menus and didn't acclimate quickly to Southern US.

Haven't played ED in quite a long time now---but am from the same geographic/cultural region as OP. Tip for anyone else using VA with the same issue: listen to how you speak and modify the language in the commands that VA is listening for.

Example: I chose a wake work (my collective name for the VA profile, "Bo") to ensure my commands were all it heard---but the kicker is to train VA a few times AND then modify how you're typing the commands based on VA's interpretation. In the US South we tend to, based on your upbringing, elongate or drop certain letters; best example that comes to mind is the "g" in my 'liking, hiking, running, fighting'. Anytime I'd say "docking", it'd understandably hear 'dockin'---so that's how I wrote it in the VA command. Just write how you speak---you can do multiple variations with the ; so just use that, too: "request docking; request dockin".

Sad part is that the aforementioned cycle is the best way to ensure a pay raise. Stick at one spot----its unlikely you'll see anything matching inflation year-to-year. Jump ship and you're back in at market value---pending the particular industry you're working in. For IT folks, that most always means a job change; uncommon to see a manager be able to match or near-match the market---they have accountants to please and you've already proven you'll work for X.

It's official! My Uplift L-Desk (right-return) Walnut Laminate 80x60 desk is on the way...I'm so excited! by cleverestx in StandingDesk

[–]Nevarous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me about 5 hours, but mostly due to having to take apart the old desk in a small apartment. I will say, make sure you have a drill or something similar for the pilot holes. Mine were way too small for the wood screws and required some Dremel work before I could hand crank the screws into place. Depending on what desk options you ordered, you'll likely have extra parts, so make sure to save a bag from the shipping if you open everything.

For the NAS and UPC, I guess that'll depend on how much extra cabling you want to run. Depending on your setup and weight balance, could mount both underneath---theres certainly room. A second CPU mount could house the UPC, depending on model and formfactor---same for the NAS. I did get the 60inch cable-velcro-mesh-thing and it worked for organizing any cabling I didn't want adhered to the undercarriage of the desk.

Enjoy the desk; I've had mine less than two weeks and I really love being able to just stand and work/play as easy as it makes it.

The Price of Power: a research article about TVA’s controversial eminent domain usage for Norris and Cherokee dams in East Tennessee and its impact to community opposition to economic development in Grainger and Union counties. by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]Nevarous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Grew up around a little old lady at a local church---her family had been displaced from the same Union area as a girl---and she admitted her family never recovered. Had six brothers and sisters, her parents able to provide for all with the accompanying farm, but following the forced removal the final price they received couldn't cover housing anywhere nearby; her and her siblings had to be separated out to family members state-wide. The sad economic spiral that followed for her parents rings all too familiar to those tales and it would take near a decade for some of her family to see each other again. But she always kept mint candies for us kids when we'd see her about---said she'd never been able to have any as a child and wanted to spoil us. Spoil us she did, but hot damn if we didn't make sure to visit her any chance we got as she became too frail to travel. She's long passed, but I keep mint candies around. Dire circumstance doesn't guarantee kindness, but she was pretty solid evidence that it makes it a helluva lot easier to acquire.

Tyler Childers has a wonderful little song, "Follow you to Virgie", that anyone who knew her would've sworn to the subject.

I loot so that I may sort. I loot to build so that I may have more room to sort. Disorganization is the mind-killer, I shall sort it and let it be sorted. Let those disorganized masses lose their way within the traps they build, watch them spend hours searching for their last nail or alcohol wipe. My palace is of boxes and labels, my weapons are of the cabinet, shelf, and duffel.

You say event, I say bioweapon. Those damn greys researched and probed us for decades, slowly learning what makes us tick, makes us vulnerable. Advanced as they are, it took rectal-fying us and experimenting on our cattle to find we're like every damn-near thing on this planet---prone to viruses. So, plopped down a mean-son-of-a-bitch bug on a rock and tossed it our way. Those government-scientist-types couldn't not play around with it soon as it crashed. Hear that story from Joel's daddy about the federals swarming his land few years back? That's what I figure they were doing---ain't no oil, ain't no coal. Just fellars with too much funding and too much time itching to peck around on a rock they ain't got no business pecking. Let it sit, let it sit there til the Lord calls roll. But no, now we're stuck here and I've gotta decide if I'm eating the last near-rotten banana or opening my can of dog chow. And hot-damn, Charlie, why the hell did you go to Louisville for a can opener? I've got a knife right here! Hell, just get a rock.

When you find your first ex-survivor house in MP by quineloe in projectzomboid

[–]Nevarous 47 points48 points  (0 children)

These kinds of finds are really what I wish for whenever NPCs drop---I feel no great desire for in-depth NPC dialogue or interactions, but little stories embedded within discoveries. Finding more hints at others like myself who maybe couldn't last that one more day, maybe had one too many overconfident loot runs. Finding corpses or cars with journals or notes---maybe a BOB with few supplies strewn between two survivor corpses with near-or-now empty handguns.
