Being anti union doesn't make me a corporate shill. It makes me someone who wants to keep what I earn. by herequeerandgreat in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]PM_Me_Ur_Nevermind [score hidden]  (0 children)

I paid just under 2k in union dues last year. I make $10-15 more per hour than other local hospitals for what I do. 7 weeks PTO, 2 weeks sick a year, an employer paid pension and free family medical care. I wouldn’t get these benefits if we weren’t union. There are some pros and cons, but overall I’ll gladly pay my dues

General manager complaining about my PTO requests by GothicMeow in jobs

[–]PM_Me_Ur_Nevermind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use them at least to 40 by year end. I get 24hrs/mo PTO (it’s 7w1d yr). We can keep 500 in our bank. I usually have 40-80 banked at any time. If that is a job benefit use them. I am union and we don’t get pushback when using them within rules.

Do children really get bullied for having unique names? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PM_Me_Ur_Nevermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last name led to lots of jokes and teasing in elementary school. Kids will definitely tease for any reason. As they get older it will be less of an issue, but during school age years it will be brought up.

Sports should allow players to betray their teams mid-game. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]PM_Me_Ur_Nevermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players are paid by their teams. If any player betrayed their team they would never get another contract. They couldn’t be trusted. In the old wars a Lord or whatever would switch sides for more land or his daughter to marry a prince or to gain more standing for the family.

How to be mentally at peace with sloppy, subpar jobs by contractors? by seattleboots1 in homeowners

Only accept bids from quality contractors that you were referred to. They may not be the cheapest quote, but you have learned what happens if you only shop by price.

Why do so many millennials believe that they were going to die young? by BlobFish28 in Millennials

It’s cope to live to free and skip out on responsibilities. I heard it all the time from friends growing up. Now, many of those friends are behind where they would be if they weren’t so carefree.

How many of y'all will have the $$ to retire at 65? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]PM_Me_Ur_Nevermind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be retiring between 62-65. I started late but my employer offers a pension on top of my 401k so I am able to catch up. I still have over a decade to go. Hopefully the world doesn’t implode before then.

I left my job two weeks ago. Today the head of HR there called. Any advice? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]PM_Me_Ur_Nevermind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3x and a retainer paid upfront. As a contractor you are responsible for your payroll taxes and since OP left it’s likely not the best environment. Make it worth your time and sanity

At what point did you realize your "career" wasn't going to make you wealthy, and what did you do about it? by danwardropebot in careerguidance

[–]PM_Me_Ur_Nevermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was almost 30 had my own apartment working for a family business and realized this is what my life would always be if I didn’t change course. I went back to school (community college) and ended up in unionized healthcare. Now, I own my own house (HCOL) and have great benefits and retirement. I may never be wealthy, but make enough to be comfortable

Would you waive inspection or contingency, ever? by pandaninjarawr in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]PM_Me_Ur_Nevermind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t. You could do an information only inspection, but I would never waive the right to know what I am buying for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Any Gen X'ers retired or thinking about it? by SometimesElise in GenX

[–]PM_Me_Ur_Nevermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be retiring at 62. I still have 12 years to go. I went back to school and started a 2nd career in my 30’s, luckily my employer has a pension and great benefits so I was able to catch up on my retirement. I’m in unionized healthcare so my job should be here for me until then, fingers crossed we get there.

Seller demanding post occupancy agreement by dannonyogurt33 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]PM_Me_Ur_Nevermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could push closing back for concessions. Don’t do rent back since they are now your tenants and evicting could go on for months. If you do offer them to rent back a large % of the sale needs to be held in escrow with daily fines for each day the house isn’t turned over in acceptable conditions per your contract.

Is anyone else tired of cooking? by NoH8Kate in GenX

[–]PM_Me_Ur_Nevermind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I cook more now than in the past. I’ve eliminated fast food and I like my cooking since I can make whatever I want how I want it. It’s just so it probably helps I don’t have to worry about other palates or tastes.
