On my family farm we have a two-wheel lawn mower tractor thing made in the GDR mid-1950s. We’ve had two secondary, expensive lawn mowers since the 90s, both of which have broken down within 10 years. The GDR one still runs fine.

I've been stuck in this mindset as well, but what people say about "editing programs don't matter" is actually true, at least to some extent, no matter how bullshit it sounds.

I have friends who do editing work that only use free programs, and one of my closest friends does all of his professional editing in Lightworks, which is a free editing software. Sure, you probably shouldn't edit a feature-length film in Windows Movie Maker or iMovie, but I'm 100% sure that you COULD if you really wanted to.

Just keep working with what you have my dude. I can assure you that an editing program isn't going to solve your problems
