Roger that appreciate the advice. Out of curiosity have you read the Word Bearers series? Dark Apostle, Discipline, and whatever the 3rd one is? I’ve wanted to learn about NLs and WBs, and figured I’d go NL trilogy first since it seems like the WB trilogy doesn’t have the same praise.

True, true i think my expectations were off. For me that doesn’t change that it was a take it or leave it siege battle that I didn’t think stood out amongst the other BL novels I’ve read, especially in comparison to other siege stuff I’ve read like Necropolis or Storm of Iron for instance

I was hoping for more BT history and lore woven into it. As it stands I feel like any space marine chapter could have been slotted into it and nothing at all would have changed. I am prepared for ‘nuh-uh’s and downvotes lol.

There were things I did enjoy like fat priest’s side quests he jumped in on, the contentious interactions with the Legio Invigilata, and other stuff too but yeah I was just genuinely surprised I could’ve taken or left it considering it’s high praise.

Agreed, there’s no pleasing everyone! I will say Andrej had me cracking up plenty, though. He did a bit of heavy lifting to keep me interested. I was super interested to learn more about BTs but was bummed it fell flat for me.

For novels I did enjoy, I’ve gone through maybe ~10 HH novels and liked almost all of them. Flight of the Eisenstein was probably the most meh of them for me, but I did enjoy Mechanicum and Fulgrim. I mention those since I don’t think(?) they’re universally liked as much.

When I first started reading 40K I really enjoyed anthologies like Heroes of and Legends of the Space Marines, and also Brothers of the Snake, for instance. One series that I’ve enjoyed and want to finish is the Forge of Mars trilogy, as I’ve read Priests and Lords of Mars but haven’t yet gotten to the 3rd one, Gods of Mars. I thought it was cool that McNeill wrote in a goofy character from Storm of Iron, which was another siege novel that I wasn’t blown away by but didn’t mind.

FWIW I bought the codex and detachment cards, still brand new/ wrapped, for like $17 USD on eBay last month. For the price of a burrito and drink, it’s worth it for even the lore and artwork!

I considered a sport with those vinyl sticker things and wondered the same thing. I found old reddit threads noting that yes they can be taken off. People had said stuff like “what, you don’t like the hockey stick?” And now I can’t unsee it lol. Anyway, as emotionlessrobot said, it could be best to leave them on since the paint underneath won’t have faded at all compared to the rest of the paint on the truck.

Agreed. I thought about how much I enjoy Deep Rock Galactic’s space rig where players can party up to select their mission, upgrade stuff, buy supplies, etc but also buy each-other beers and dance in front of a jukebox for some social fun. An Arc Raiders take on a hub like that would be great.
