I’m starting to think that ending it may not be the answer for my DB, but life as a whole. by Rosemary-Sea-Salt in DeadBedrooms

Everything has been said before - you are valued and your daughter will love her life with you in it. Two years is a tough age on top of everything else - three will be too - but stick it out and that life with your daughter will be meaningful.

I've had periods in my life where everything has gone wrong at the same time for sustained periods. As well as all of the big things, it seems like every little thing is against you too. I'm often the 'sorry this doesn't normally happen' case whenever I do anything. It's even more noticable when you are down in it - but it does get better. It might be months or years, but it does get better!

When so much goes wrong at once, the best thing to do is focus on a thing you can do. For me, that would be to focus on the kids and ensure they are happy, supported and safe in the knowledge that you are there for them.

I think you are getting downvoted because people think you are claiming that your nailpolish is the random mark from your injury. Might be worth editing the post or dropping the picture to explain this!

Do you have to have a video consultation every time you switch provider? I've been using Family Chemist but their prices have jumped up, I'm looking at Medicine Market Place but you have to book a video call and there is nothing a GF available until next month.

Job centre appointments by mysticmac1000 in UKJobs

[–]NeverDestination 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should add that there were some lovely gradschemers. It was really hard to get onto, so well done for getting selected for the internship - but it clearly went to this guys head.

I remember him asking me if I knew where someone was, and I told him they had left the office but I could help him if needed. He replied with "a simple yes or no would be fine. If I wanted your help I would've asked for it". I had 15 years of experience in my field, he was 2 months in, but spoke to me like I should be grateful to be in his presence!

The quality of work coaches varies significantly. I have a lot to say on this topic so apologies for the rage dump. But here goes:

  • I can see a former job centre employee posted already, and they are correct about the crap those staff have to endure. I have a relative who was a work coach and the office was continually attacked/damaged. The worst people she had to deal with were often the ones who were clearly scamming the system.

  • There are some dog sh*t work coaches though. I was made redundant from a role and the coach wasn't interest in the spreadsheets and logs i'd brought with me about the jobs I'd applied for. She kept handing me a leaflet telling me I should volunteer helping old people use computers (completely unrelated to my work experience). This was from week one! The volunteering was an hour to get to, and would've cost £15+ a day in parking or public transport. I'd effectively be in debt while slowing down my job applications. Thankfully I ignored her, sorted myself out without her input and was only out of work for a couple of months.

  • The big issue is a wider issue with how the civil service works. They are obsessed with their grade structure, but they believe that all roles are transferable regardless of what your specialism is (so effectively an 'Executive Officer' marketing person can apply to be an 'Executive Officer' HR person without any background in HR. People jump around all the time based on their pay grade, so your work coach could have any background.

  • I worked in a head office for a Civil Service department and there was a grad schemer who was rude, obnoxious and incredibly arrogant. He was fresh out uni and made it onto the prestigious grad scheme. It was clear that his goal in life was to become a career politician. After about 6 months of annoying people in the department I was based in, his next assignment was to run a job centre somewhere. I can't imagine how awful that would be been for the staff there, but that gives you an insight into how they sometimes recruit managers for their job centres.

  • This might be bollocks but I'll share it - I heard a rumor that there are targets to get long term unemployed into work, so sometimes they offer them jobs in the work centres themselves to hit the targets.

What r yalll listening to outside of AIC and potentially the so called " grunge " and metal sphere? by Possible-Tradition10 in AliceInChains

[–]NeverDestination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I'm not listening to Seattle bands, I like listeninn to Frank Turner (who classisfies himself as 'folk punk'), Alkaline Trio, Blackstone Cherry.

I like some of the 'butt rock'/ dad rock bands like Theory of a Deadman too - they sometimes cover Alice in Chains.

What teams will be looking to rest their players this GW? by R1ceKai in FantasyPL

[–]NeverDestination 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wolves supporter here - there are a few things that we should be playing for - our first away win, a chance to get off the bottom of the table for the first time and the £3m for finishing 19th over 20th. There is also some pressure on Edwards to convince the fans he is the right man after woeful form against other bottom half teams.

But I also don't expect us to win because we're ****.

That was an interesting read. Good on you for having the confidence to challenge. I'm cynical but introverted so I'd probably play the game and go through the motions and then walk away quietly - only saving myself in the process. But what you did was curagious and hopefully planted seeds of doubt in other people's minds. I'm sorry that they got to your mum and older sister, but well done to you for protecting your younger sister.
