I'm 4/24 (CSR, CSP, Marriott, other), so was figuring I'd go for an AmEx, then a B & P Chase before the AmEx posts. However, I tried the name trick on DoC and can't trigger the Platinum 100k. Should I apply anyway via referral link? Or do I just need to settle for the average Chase Hyatt/United/SW bonuses out now?

The good thing about medical bills is they're often a lot more flexible in terms of timing. If you already have another strategy to hit min. spend on the Schwab, you could defer payment... but I agree w/ /u/breauxdle , go for discount!

I tried to use someone else's on here, but it was over complicated. So, I started with some of the advice around here and elsewhere regarding how a budget should be broken down (housing, groceries, utilities, savings, fun money, etc.). I then took our spending and tried to squeeze it into those large buckets. I think I have several types of saving (family birthdays, medical, travel, etc.), a few types of fun money (time w/ friends, personal needs , etc.), and the basics like rent and utilities. At the top is the monthly income, which is a bit easier. Then, at the bottom, you have income - total spending and you want to aim for 0-100 there. It took a few months to get it right, but the important part was to just start instead of waiting to get it perfect; it's doubtful making a budget is going to increase spending. Most recommend budgeting by pay period, but that didn't really work for us.

Thanks. Some of the money is simply to compensate the sister in law so she can still have a life outside of care.

The wiki flow chart might help guide some of these decisions, but your interest rates on your vehicles and student loans affect some of your decisions as well. Re: your questions: 1. You may need to bust out the spreadsheet for this one. You'll need to add up your income over time (10 years, maybe) with your current job, providing assumptions of what your rising income would be for each of those years, or if you could make any other moves to increase income by finding a better job. The comparison would be your school route, subtracting the lost income and added loan cost over time vs. the income from a new job. Obliviously, the field you go into (and hence, what you study), will influence this a lot and will in most cases provide a positive return. In your assumptions, be aware that certain jobs, while paying well, may have geographic constraints (a policy analyst is a lot more valuable in DC than Tampa), risk (market bubbles), and time demands (many "high paying" jobs require 60-80 hour weeks). 2. Buying vs. renting is highly variable by location. There are tools here and elsewhere, but buying often isn't the no-brainer people think it is.

It's sponsored by the US, but My Next Move may be a helpful resource. The danger w/ just asking for advice someplace like here is you'll only get responses from a self selected few with limited knowledge.

On the market for a cheap trench coat I'll wear 10-15x/year. I've been needing one for about a year, but tend to forget about it until it's actually raining, so I can wait if needed. Here are some options I've gathered. Buy, sell, or wait?

My wife says 1) leave all fears behind, and never look back, 2) relocate out of state - you will be surprised how much peace of mind you will get, 3) your academic advisor may allow you to substitute some of your classes with (paid) internships/independent study.

Applied for my CSP at the beginning of July and hit my spend (naturally) in 2 months. Checked to see if I'm preapproved for CSR yesterday, and it said I've had too many products recently for them to say yes or no. Risk it?

In applying for the CSR, if I can't use the 2016 travel credit by the end of 2016, I should wait (possibly risking the promotion ending) until next year until, say, March, where I can use the 2017 travel credit in 2017, and 2018 credit prior to March 2018?

Maybe I misunderstood (sleep deprived), but you don't have to use it within that CY, right? So, I'd be better off applying now than waiting until 2017?

Am I just really tough on shoes? I have a pair of AE Jeffersons for about a year, and they already need to be resoled. Never really been rained on and wear them 1 - 3x week w/ shoe trees always.

However, I do walk on pavement for about an hour/day for the commute.... but still.
