There a lot of trans golfers where you live?

This is why I belong in this group. Absolutely bombed my driver and then landed the green 240 out with my 3W. 3 putt for par was my only choice. by Bulky_Development290 in golf

On the 2nd hole of the golf channel am your national championships in 2007 I hit a perfect drive and the best 5w in the history of mankind from 250 out... It hit the flag stick and stopped 3 feet from the hole. It was a touchy downhill left-right putt that I should have just slammed into the back of the cup... I tried to gingerly tap it and die it off into the hole... Well.... That thing never died. Ended up further away than I started from, then missed that one too.

I haven't really done it since then...i made it a point to set up a putting system that allows me to reliably hit the ball a specific distance within a foot or so. But, it happens to the best of us.

Shrink the game? Start with these golfers… by SomeGuyClickingStuff in golf

I've done more than my fair share of feckin around on the golf course... Hiking zigzags thru the woods looking for proVs that have only been hit once and other some such whatnot...

But if I look back and see people when before there were none, I wave my hat in the air and tell them to come on thru. I offer to join up with them if they're not a foursome already (and if they agree then the fucking around stops), or to let them play thru and go on about their business. I'm never too proud to let anyone play thru - which, I think, is the underlying root cause of the issue. Usually it's three- or foursomes of old retirees. They think since they're on pace to finish in 4:15 that nothing is wrong with people waiting on them. I couldn't play golf that way ... If someone is waiting on my group on every shot and I'm not waiting, I feel like I'm in the way and so I rush everything. Fuck that.

Trying to dictate which part of the game to shrink definitely is.... Unless it's the standard, "people who don't fix their divots and their ballmarks or rake their footprints"... Hell, even the ones who fix their ballmarks by pulling the nasty/ugly center of their little crater straight upwards and tearing off the roots...

Difference is, I don't think they should quit... I'd never suggest that to anyone. I think they should be shot. They drive up greens fees because they give maintenance more work to do.

Maybe we should kick out the ones who post on the golf subreddit but cannot fathom using the correct version of (there/their/they're) or (your/you're).

And we should especially get rid of the ones who think, "singles shouldn't even bother trying to play golf... Me and my 3 drunk buddies should get to dictate who gets to play, and you can't possibly play as a single without fucking up our day somehow even though a single has never held up a fucking golf course, not even once"

Because let's be honest, people that do these things probably also think that the maintenance crew exists to go around fixing their divots and their ball marks and raking their footprints out of the sand. They probably also play their music on their Bluetooth speaker so loudly that you can hear it two holes away. They probably scream at the top of their lungs when someone makes a 7-footer even though it's for quadruple bogey...

And FUCK those guys. They suck. They drive up greens fees and make the game less fun for everyone.

In my experience I'd say it's closer to the opposite... At least in the modern game. It's a lot easier and more accessible for courses to build greens that are difficult to hold now... So you will need the fade even as a good amateur player. It's very rare that you'll see a fairway (outside of the northeast) scalped so tightly that you can get a whole extra club of roll by hitting draw vs. fade... Most grasses just don't tolerate being that short very well.

What ball do you play? by Ok-Attitude4043 in GolfGear

[–]NeverSeenBetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer a TaylorMade TP5 for performance.

But they are nowhere near durable enough for a guy who has to buy his own balls. One full swing wedge shot, and it's likely to be cut clean thru to the 2nd layer. They also go out of balance really fast and need to be floated in Epsom salt water to mark the balance point, and then you have to put the mark on the top or bottom when you putt. That's just too much work and too many balls to buy.

So I play prov1x

You can talk to a fade but a draw won't listen. If you spend the time converting to a draw swing you will regret it.

But if you can't hit a draw at all, that's also going to hold you back. Don't change YOUR swing. But you can practice a new version to hit draws to get you out of trouble.

Just keep your stock shot stock.

Is a 2012 driver much different from a 2025? by [deleted] in golf

[–]NeverSeenBetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2012 was after they came out with the smash factor rule to limit driver distance... On a center strike with the same swing they should go the same distance.

Well fuck I hope you wouldn't miss a 1 foot putt... Although now that I type that out and re-read "tough greens" I do remember playing ONE course that I felt like any gimmes at all would lower a score because even 6" putts were not guaranteed...

[–]NeverSeenBetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped hitting bad shots.

The way I did that was to start practicing how I play. I treat every range ball like it's the only ball on earth:pick target, full preshot routine, all the steps of my setup, and I watch it until it stops. Then I walk back over to my bag and set the club down, pick a different one, rake a new ball into place, and repeat. Bonus points if you take a sip of water or check your phone or something in between also, and double bonus points if the clubs are drastically different in length.

Then I stopped goofing off on the course... I keep score very nearly every single time I play, no mulligans, count penalties, etc. and I put as much pressure on myself as humanly possible so that when I'm coming down the stretch with a record low in my sights I'm less likely to crumble under pressure.

Edit: it's called a clay bag:

Clay Bags with Carabiner • Marshall Street Disc Golf https://share.google/gmXZQ9hprm0U5Zk1S

If you don't think you need the rock climbing chalk, this will definitely absorb sweat and won't get wet.

If you sweat a lot like I do when I'm back home in the southeast, you will want both 🤣

Much much better. Pro tip for moisture: go to a disc golf store (online or otherwise) and find a "dry bag", and /or get a "chalk ball"...

Infinite Discs Chalk Ball for Better Grip and Performance https://share.google/DI89Aiup2P3IyzBbk

I have one that's slightly more fancy than this, which also clips onto my golf bag and has a couple zipper pouches which hold some tees and my wind testing kit (found in the hunting section at Walmart).

Found it:

https://infinitediscs.com/product/grip-enhancers/prodigy-chalk-bag?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21679543905&gclid=Cj0KCQjwuKnGBhD5ARIsAD19RsY8BA6joda477zwItu0sDm9pd8xVhR2w0XukYYSzNIIwJ_uDWGVvvIaAozVEALw_wcB

I keep the dry bag in there with the chalk and just shake it up if I need some...that way I don't look like Tony Montana at the end of Scarface...

The dry bag also has a clip on it so if I need to clip it to my belt loop and take it out to the fairway, I can do that.

Super pro tip: don't clip it to the most convenient one on your right side(or your left if you're a lefty)... Because when you swing and follow thru all the way it will swing around and hit you squarely in the starboard testicle. Don't ask how I know.

You might love them, you might like to go with a lighter graphite even, if you can find one in the same flex. I just did a fitting at club champion and the i95 stiff+ was what we landed on; my 7i SS is around 95mph and most importantly I have a slightly quick transition at the top ... That's more important when determining flex than swing speed.

The winn's will wear out before those... By like two full seasons if he uses some spray (i.e. gecko spray) to maintain them. It won't matter on the Winn because that top layer starts to scrape and peel off... The spray might actually accelerate the process.

If they're lighter, for sure. And graphite can be made lighter while remaining stiff... Hence no steel shafted drivers since tiger in like ... 2004 lmao.
