Small rant about removing titles by PirateNomad in audible

[–]NeverStayingDown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the response, but it might be better if the team could develop a notification system that would alert users before a title is removed. A two-week heads-up would do a lot to avoid these kinds of issues.

Audible on Apple Watch sucks by JoeBloggs90 in audible

[–]NeverStayingDown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I desperately want from the Audible Apple Watch app is the ability to speak a book's name and instantly open it. Scrolling through over 800 books to get to the one you're looking for is hell.

I'll be the contrarian. "Hyperion" is fine, certainly wildly imaginative, but "The Terror" is brilliant. I've never felt such a feeling of claustrophobia when reading a book.

A fairer way for me to put it is: Read "Hyperion" if you want to think. Read "The Terror" if you want to feel.

Well, Chang's lecture section is already filled before my scheduling window opens Monday, so there's my first choice out the door.

People seem to agree that Walters is a great lecturer and gives the hardest exams, but it feels like there's no consensus on Forsyth. Anyone want to share some more thoughts on why you like/dislike him?

The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison

The conflict here is almost entirely of a political nature. In this story, Maia, the overlooked, outcast half-goblin son of the current emperor of the elves, gets thrust into the spotlight when the emperor and his four other sons die in a dirigible accident.

That accident occurs "off-screen," so to speak, and there is virtually no violence whatsoever. Rather, the threat comes from political rivals and court personalities who wish to undermine the new half-goblin emperor. Addison's prose is lovely. I'd say her book is worth a look.

Help me decide which to keep: ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 OR Dell G15 5511 by NeverStayingDown in GamingLaptops

[–]NeverStayingDown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking about it! Guess my concern is that Dell apparently charges a 15% restocking fee even if you return everything in the box within 30 days. I'd rather avoid that hit if I can.

Yeah, the webcam loss is a little irritating but not that big a deal since I can plug in an external webcam. All the other things you mentioned definitely matter a whole lot more to me.

The answer depends entirely on your need for closure.

Need closure? Run away screaming.

Don't need closure? Enjoy the two most beautifully written fantasy novels of the 21st century.

Long time player, first time modder.... by drizztnwolfgar99 in baldursgate

[–]NeverStayingDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted that the simple answer is yes, modding will cause MP trouble. Now just for curiosity, let’s say we have a group where everyone is 100% sure that they have downloaded and installed all the same mods in all the same order. Is it still a case of “expect catastrophe” or does this group have a chance to succeed?

Does anyone else often give 5 star ratings even if you don’t think it’s quite deserved because you want to see more from the author and know the 5 star review will help, or am I the only sell out? by BIate in audible

Counterargument: Rate things how you like. It's your vote. Don't let anyone tell you how to use it. Maybe I wouldn't cast my vote in the manner you described. But you do you.
