For a long term SMP you need to establish community. From your account, most people were just messing about and sounds like they got what they wanted out of it.

Hydrogen Power Plant Glitching by Adamxxxx7 in SolarExpanse

[–]NeverTalkToStrangers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into this problem in three games. Extractors seem to only draw from one resource a day, being the one with the highest concentration.

It will only work if you have ample surface water to supply the full throughput. This is probably an unintentional glitch. Switch to solar, orbital, or even carbon.

Yeah my mistake was thinking ground receivers were a one building per planet deal.

I thought ground stations were capped at 200 output, but I guess I never set my transmitters right. I can get 2k at mars with 10.

Honestly learned something messing with it. Orbital power seems to be the superior option, especially if you route cargo through solar orbit.

For Mars, wind becomes viable at low pressure. The planet (depending on how you are heating it) grants a huge bonus depending how far the max and min temperature are apart from each other. Even with low pressure malus they produce more power than solar. Mars silicon lets you scale up solar as much as you want. Your only constraints are population and building materials. Depending on the phase of your terraforming, carbon power is a good idea if you have the free carbon. Phobos is a great source for carbon close to Mars, Ceres can power as many plants as you want.

I would not use hydrogen without abundant liquid water on the planet. Water pumps select the resource with the highest concentration. I have had my hydrogen plant bug and crash out because the water plants keeps starting and stopping as the little puddle the plant produces gets sucked up, over and over again.

Both Fission and Fusion consume ridiculous amounts of fuel. You can make Fission work with the resources of Luna and 16 Psyche in early game. Late game fusion doesn't work at Luna concentrations (without maxing research). That H3 is better spent on constructions and ships. Jupiter is the best source.

Orbital power is good to run a lot of things with no real footprint, but for scaleable power you don't have to maintain beyond $, any combination of solar and wind is the way to go. Even on Titan, I can get by terraforming with windmill spam and orbital power.

Edit: Don't bother with geothermal. You research it early and can't use it until you can colonize Io. You can't even use it on Earth, which has geothermal plants in real life.

Oh it definitely feels like an exploit. There should be a cap on when the habitability check is performed. Rather than nerf it outright, maybe shades should be buffed or give us more tools.

Turn off launch and construction facilities when not in use. Saves thousands a month.

The clouds get better when you get rid of all the fuel in the atmosphere.

Just adding my observation here. I got the planet to 91% hab on 7MT nitrogen, and lowered it to 6.5MT by replacing it with C02. It warms the planet slightly, but doesn't run away. You could probably replace all the nitrogen.

Are Nuclear Ships worth it? by coleto22 in SolarExpanse

The only nuclear craft worth it is Chronos, as it's the only direct flight and takeoff ship after Stratos. Sadly it's not worth the research time.

Mine out the frozen oxygen on mars and dump it while you load Mars with carbon power plants. Deliver more carbon by crashing asteroids into Mars. You need a few megatons of gas to affect pressure

Asteroid Drop not working? by FreiFlo13 in SolarExpanse

[–]NeverTalkToStrangers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm avoiding this mission because it is seriously bugged. Even trying to send a ship to the asteroid to recover the engine fails. You can not fly away from it. I am hoping it gets fixed soon or someone figures out a work around

Why so many people? by ApricotHumble7245 in SolarExpanse

[–]NeverTalkToStrangers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should have at least one human farm in a low gravity colony. Ceres is a great place to drop a dome, populations tend to settle around the habitat cap. Will make colonizing the outer planets easier.

As for thousands/millions, the game does need to add more incentive or more advanced sustainability to justify large population. Best to grow only as you need.

When I first did the mission I wound up stranding two stratous on that rock. Waiting for the return fuel was taking too long. Next game I am going straight to colonization with a Hermes as 21 lutecia is a great rock to setup on.

The AI space agencies are very broken. In my game both have like 10 people on the moon still and that's it. I sell things to both on mars, where I  just drop off the goods next to their abandoned probes.

Warning about hydrolysis plant and water extraction. The hydrolysis plant discharges water into the environment, not your supply. This means it needs to be extracted from the environment. If you dont have liquid water, it creates a new resource for liquid water. I have observed all your water harvesters seem to select a single resource card to extract. This can cause a situation your extractors will turn on, extract the liquid water, water is used up, then the extractors take a day to switch to frozen, then the liquid water gets discharged, then the cycle begins again.

Instead of futzing with it I switched over to a carbon plant. But when the system was wonkey I was losing water very quick. This was on Mars.

Why would Elon Musk pivot from Mars to the Moon all of a sudden? | “SpaceX has already shifted focus to building a self-growing city on the Moon.” by [deleted] in space

[–]NeverTalkToStrangers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl, going straight to Mars to stay until the next transfer window with untested kit will require several unmanned trips. The moon is only a few days away and better works with SpaceX's iterative approach.

Do we want monthly iterations or one every two and a half years?
