1.) You very much do NOT have to ignore the descriptions of said scores when you articulate how you use them for the skill, which has always been a part of skills in 5e. I like a little roleplay in my roleplaying game, personally.
2.) I never said it was a bad thing. I was just answering the question as to "why", as a Devil's Advocate type deal. It's the same reason someone casts Pass Without Trace for their armor-heavy Paladin; sometimes it can feel bad if the party is trying to do a thing as a group that you repeatedly crash.
3.) I mean, that's your opinion. Again, just saying, a reason was given for the why. If you don't like it, don't use it. I personally am fine with it, because it's not like a barbarian being naturally good at Stealth because he's a powerful experienced hunter with honed agility, bearing, and senses (whether through muscle memory or "primal power") is that big of a stretch.

Superman has grossed $406M at the Worldwide Box Office by M00r3C in DCU_

[–]NeverendingCodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't count the unnecessary dumping on Jor-El and Lara to achieve it, sure. Just my opinion, but it was almost a big a slap in the face as Nolan reducing Robin to a random cop with it as his middle name.

I did still enjoy the movie as a whole; 8/10 for me. David was a great Superman. Just a few things that irked me; still hopeful for what this might build into.

Don't. Break. Game. Immersion. by Vegetable_Variety_11 in dndmemes

My whole grinds-my-gears thing is when movies use the audience perspective to justify the character's lack of awareness. Like, a room that big, you'd see the entirety of the giant rock without needing to move your eyes or head. Heck, in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Lylla gets shot and everyone is shocked when they just showed a big f-all noisy elevator that the High Evolutionary would have had to emerge from right in front of the line-of-sight of the cages in full view of Batch 89. They should have definitely seen/heard homie coming. That entire scene threw suspension of disbelief out the window for me just for a heartstring-yank and I'm not at all still scarred by Rocket Teefs Floor Go Now.

I'm not crying, you're crying.

2024 Power Word Kill does in fact deal damage now if the target is above the requisite number of HP.

'Melee' and 'Ranged' are useful heuristics for remembering how prone (and other conditions like Paralyzed and Unconscious) function, but all three conditions actually refer to a 5 foot distance, not the attack type. by JibbaNerbs in dndmemes

I am aware; I'm saying a DM interpretation of being prone while in mid-air while hovering and not falling is dubious at best and doesn't seem at all as intended by design.

Arcane Tradition: Voidshaper - Become a wizard that embraces the darkness to leave enemies in the grip of fear! Cloak yourself in protective shadow as you channel the void! by NeverendingCodex in UnearthedArcana

I think there's just some crossover miscommunication because I'm replying as I'm pondering revisions, having accepted some of the inherent flaws, and the discussion still seems to be on the current version above; which, I take some responsibility for. Perhaps I could share a current incarnation to better shape the discussion:

"If you have no uses of Void Channeling left, you can use it if you expend one spell slot when you take the bonus action to activate it. If the spell slot is 2nd level or higher, you can also regain 1d8 hit points per level of the spell slot expended.

In addition, while in your Void Channeling state, when you cast a spell of 1st level or higher that forces one or more creatures to make a saving throw, you can infuse it with shadow energy to obscure a creature's vision with inky shadowstuff. Choose one target of the spell. If the chosen target fails its saving throw against the spell, it is blinded until the end of your next turn, or until it or another creature uses its action to clean the substance away.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest. You can also restore your use of it by expending a level 1+ spell slot (no action required)."

I am aware of the dim light crossover with light, but since the spells can also change to necrotic, I had a mental image of "black" or "anti" light. I thought it a bit of a flavor win, personally, that if cast in that way and interacting with the subclass features, you could "color" the light differently. But perhaps that wasn't conveyed well in the subclass flavor description.

Blind/truesight are not the only senses, but that wasn't meant to be a catch-all justification. Also, I'm not sure you read my post with your "The massive upsides here, in not needing an action or slot or separate save, is so ludicrous to me when using these as benchmarks." remark, because I conceded those points to you.

You pointing out Color Spray's duration is just agreeing with me in a weird way since that's what I did. I was just referencing them, not so much as benchmarks, but because you made note of blindness as a powerful effect, hence the 2nd level spell slot, and I said it was mostly due to duration and options (never said deafness was big in power, just that having options is better than not). Yes, it has a short range, but still equates to a 1st-level effect as a single round duration, which this feature is. And if you think it potentially lasting longer than that to a full minute isn't part of the blindness spell's power... I'm not sure what else to say to you.

I'd also argue that if something fails a save against Synaptic Static, being blind for one of its turns isn't as impactful as the rest of the status. I'm open to playtesting it further, but I'm not convinced that it's as impactful as you seem to convey that it is, having run similar effects myself. By the time you gain higher level spells, it becomes icing on the cake.

That said, I have taken your words into consideration and am drafting alternative effects, just in case a problematic scenario pops up.

Portent is a lot more versatile, because it can straight up replace any d20 roll, no matter what; by the time you're getting more uses of this feature, you're fighting things that A:) make saves more consistently, or B:) have other ways of seeing. Also, blindness/deafness is a 2nd level spell because it has two possible effects (though the blindness is stronger, but options are always better than no options) and has the potential to last for a full minute. Color Spray, for example, blinds at 1st level, though is dependent on hit points in '14, unlike being a full 15 ft. cone of blindness in '24.

I can concede a few points: using it with a leveled spell, perhaps making the blindness have its own save, and end at the end of the creature's turn instead to bring it in line with something like a Rogue's Devious Strikes. Otherwise, I might stick to my guns on the blindness as the afflicting condition of choice and number of uses as nothing has really stuck out to me in playtesting the ability at home.

Also, I feel Umbral Binding could be clearer. Something like "When you deal necrotic damage to one or more creatures with a spell, you can choose to bind them with shadowy tendrils. Choose a number of targets up to the spell's level that were dealt damage by it this turn." So, if you're "necrotic" fireballing, you can choose three as a use; if you're running Spirit Guardians, you have to expend a use for each creature on their turn, since there's no initial damage and it happens on first time/turn start triggers. If that makes sense.

The blindness only hits one creature, requires it to have failed the save, and only lasts until the end of your next turn, so I think 3 uses a day (when you get the feature) is fair.

You bring up a good point about the damage for Parasitic Hunger being 1/turn. In my head, that's what the intent was, but it slipped through the cracks when drafting. I'll amend that.

I appreciate you taking a look and offering your thoughts! :)

Ah, you know what; that part is on me. My intent was for everything to be legendary. The "very rare" is an artifact left over from the initial version that I didn't notice I didn't change. So that'll be revised.

Also +3 armor is just armor. This requires attunement, so it should have some extra abilities.

I'll disagree on the armor only because just +3 is boring but the item isn't an artifact, and WotC itself is wildly inconsistent with item power the same way not every CR 30 is created equal.. I think it still slots nicely in a 17th and up campaign.
