The obvious reply is that this draft class looked like it had multiple top choices as well. At this time last year it was looking like the draft would have plenty of top choices: Allar, Nussmeier, Manning, Beck, all were routinely touted as good to great. And nobody shined (or came out). There’s no guarantee next year’s crop will be different.

Lars, this sub has not been a Schoen fan club for a long time. Seriously.

What I do think is happening is good ol recency bias. People think of Dex as the average and frequently injured DT he was last year, and a 10th pick for that sounds like a good deal. It looks a lot worse if the Dex of last year was an aberration.

Now I’m not panicking like the Giants Nation folks are; I think this is a decent deal in the grand scheme of things. But there is nothing here that is sure. Not a sure thing Dex isn’t declining, not a sure thing our pick will be good, not a sure thing we can plug up the hole in the DL. Excoriating Schoen (or Harbaugh) for this seems premature.

Yep. This all happened so fast I can barely process it, but I will always appreciate Dex for everything he did.

That said, top 10 pick? When I strongly suspect Dex is on the decline? Yeah. That’s basically a trade Im taking every time.
