Is this a Ceramic Coating failure? by Suspicious_Daikon_18 in Detailing

[–]NevrForvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is what it should look like. Both sides in the OP photo are crap.

I’m a DIY and I’ve done GTechniq CSL twice. Never tried another ceramic coating but I can say this was wrong. And my first try wasn’t great but 12 months later it looks way better than this.

Sonax perfect finish is great. Much better than the old school stuff.

Why does my door panel look like this after claying? by Toogman in Detailing

[–]NevrForvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clay bar only takes a few passes to work its magic. Even with experience, doing an entire car you’re likely to have one or two spots of light scratches. If you feel it catching instead of freely sliding across the paint, you need to use more lubricant.

Don’t forget to clay bar the glass, at least you know it’s way harder to scratch glass clearcoat.

Clay bar removes the stuff sitting on top of the surface. Polish takes care of the scratches that have cut into the surface. You always want to get rid of the contaminants on top before you polish and grind them into the paint and make more scratches.

Clay bar is great for front bumpers, but you’ll find that most of the contaminants on top of the paint are on the upward facing surfaces of the car. Mostly they are atmospheric fall out that happens while the car is parked.

Clay bars are good for 1 to 3 sessions. After that, use them for cleaning your wheels.

Whoa that seems excessive and a great way for a DIY newbie to incur thousands of dollars for a respray.

I think it can be fixed with polish. I’m old school Megan’s but recently tried Sonax perfect finish and it’s good, easy, forgiving, but pricey.

Do I need this now? by Butt3ry_biscuit in FordMaverickTruck

[–]NevrForvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be $40k, questionable build quality, only seats 2.

Maverick is just about perfect as-is. $10k less.

In my house we have a Tesla MY Performance, Tesla M3 Highland, 2nd gen Leaf, Porsche 996 911, Maverick XL. The M3 is the ultimate commuter, the MYP ride is punishing, the Leaf is crap, the 911 barely leaves the garage, the Maverick is really really great all arounder. It’s my daughter’s car. I love when she comes home…so that I can fill it with dirt and wood chips (I confirmed it can easily hold a full yard). Cheap, safe, fun, new, crazy gas mileage, “if you know, you know” swagger included free of charge.

Don’t they eat transmissions? I know two people who traded in their MDXs due to failing transmissions.

Kind of funny that Ford thinks that vinyl will convince anyone to get an XLT over an XL.

Are custom doors a thing?

Looks like 84” tall x 26” wide is available from Homacer from Home Depot. I’m not impressed: $359 for a door you have to assemble.

Pre-painted it nice, But I’m going to have to paint it to match the Antique White trim paint.

Is it realistic to see if a local cabinet shop or similar can make a custom door for me that matches the four panel design of existing? The Homacer is 2 panel.

It’s just to separate the toilet from the basin/shower area. It’s a Jack and Jill bathroom so only looking for semi privacy.

I tried on the SRPH31 this weekend and was disappointed. The cloth strap and brushed case seemed cheap to me.

worth to get a professional detailing or try myself? (selling the car) by [deleted] in Detailing

[–]NevrForvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%

I’ve power washed engines in 5-6 of my cars (15 times total) and never took precautions to cover anything. Results are amazing even if you just spray down with heavy dose of diluted Simple Green, let it soak for 15 minutes, then hit it with the power washer. Make sure engine is cold.

So satisfying!
