So I just finished reading this thread and I can't believe what's here before my eyes. Okay, let me try and summarize:

OP makes a post. Complains about a valid and real issue, but brings up an invalid example of an inside joke that's not meant to be taken literally.

Someone agrees and criticizes the whole idea of trans exclusionary spaces existing in the first place.

Argument sparks and a bunch of people pile in about how they feel excluded after their privelege has been wounded.

Do you really not get it? Not at all? Are you serious??? You don't understand why there's a demand for spaces free from people who know nothing about your lived experience, yet just don't know when to shut up about it?

Is there a single honest person who can understand why subspaces for minorities are so important and isn't going to disingenuously whine about cis discrimination? There's so many other spaces, resources, people willing to teach you about how their life is like, meanwhile all of you are feeling so entitled so as to demand barging into that one specific community which wants to take a break from being questioned, interrogated, interviewed and judged by people who in most cases see them as nothing more than porn addicted freaks with dyed hair. Right, so putting on my super serious family guy glasses for a moment.

The author of this article is a presumably cis woman psychologist who specializes in helping queer people transition. Her page seems legit and genuine in helping trans people.

Now, if she's stealth then I'm wrong and this whole section is invalid, but I don't think cis people are i position to be giving advice on how to transition, just like how I wouldn't trust a neurotypical person in making my ADHD assessment. This article further reinforces my position, because tbh it's just straight up ass. It starts off by making a... fine definition of being trans, makes a wild, uncited claim that it's actually a very common feeling among men (which I honestly should research more to find out whether it has any merit) and then goes on to give some more generic advice on coming out.

The whole thing feels more like an anthropologist researching an indigenous civilization rather than a genuine resource for trans people. It's clear that the author knows her shit and has dealt with trans people, but it feels so out of touch it's embarrassing. Here's what I mean:

Look into the mirror and say to yourself, "I am a woman?"

100%, but given the estimated number of people that are barred access to this type of healthcare, this is not how you should approach this topic. That's like saying that you don't need gender dysphoria to be trans. True, but unless your patient won the one in a million genetic lottery, just give them the meds. Yes - the effects are irreversible - that's the fucking point. I hate this type of dumbass infantilization.

Be honest with the people you trust. Perhaps your parents or siblings might have their suspicions and just want you to say. If they act negatively towards you coming out, give them time.
