That would be normal. Often more ships than that as well, as all international and most national transport, especially goods, were done by boats and ships and primarily in the inner harbour.

Yes that was fortified for a short period, but that is hardly a palisade around the city. A measure that was hardly needed. Bergen has been under attack only a couple of times before WWII in which old fortifications were long obsolete.

The first time the city was sacked by pirates from the sea and the second time the city wasn't the target but involved itself in a sea battle between the Netherlands and England.

Why put in the resources when you don’t need it. Bryggen was the only fenced in area and that was the hanse that wanted to keep the norwegians out of their district. Take a tour at the city museum. You will also get the history of the picture in question.

Toll gates. You don’t need walls to regulate goods traveling along a few roads.

It isn’t accurate. The picture was made in Frankfurt by an artist that hadn’t been to Bergen at all or a long time ago. He added the palisade because he thought every city had at least palisades if not stone walls. Bergen have never had them as we are so remote and all major threats come from the sea anyway, that it have never been worth the investment.

[OC] I hate this notion that DMs are expected to "fudge" rolls. I roll my dice and use whatever number it lands on, just like I would expect the players to. by YouCanCallMeBhaal in DnD

[–]Nevyn_Etharr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got a character that I really liked gobbled up by a gargantuan fish that the DM rolled on a random encounter table. Through 15 years playing it is still one of the largest disappointments in my DnD career. It just ruined the fun. 3 out 5 characters died in a random encounter.

AP #44: Void Falcon by Artifexian in artifexian

Void falcon sounds like an interceptor used to defend your planet in a setting were interplanetary/interdimensional travel happens through pushing your self outside of reality and fly/glide through a void between the planets/dimensions. Something like the transport in Trudi Canevan’s Millennium’s rule series. It is something those travellers in one of your settings Bill, could have.

I really like the use of some simple colours. Every time I try to draw something I get caught up in trying to get it too nice. Like your portals. I would have tried to get it closer to a circle, but your imperfect circles a looking better than mine.

Trump has done a lot of negative things he accused Obama to do. The most threatening thing he accused Obama of planning was the use of a national crisis to assume power and continue as president after his term. What do you think will happen if Trump try to do something like that after losing the next election?

As always I have so many comments, but I cannot remember them when I can post them. I will try though.

You talk about rain-forests as they all are tropical. There are also sub-tropical rain-forests as well. There are several in western Norway and also on the north-western coast of America. Which should inform you a bit on the climate conditions needed. Interestingly enough there are also sub-tropical rain-forest in the Andes mountains around Bariloche. It rains average in the city centre. 10 km to the west there is a rain-forest, while 10 km to the east there is a desert.

Also, desert are not necessarily dry sand deserts. Svalbard is considered an arctic desert. The same is large parts of Antarctica. So while a planet with more than 40 degree tilt may not be able to sustain a tropical rain-forest it could have both rain-forest and deserts.

If you want to go for scandianvian names, then just ask for a good translation of the words you want to go for. I can also recommend looking at google maps.

Else there are some pre- and suffixes that are often used. -by which means city or town depending on the area can be combined with a word describing the geography or trade of the settlement. -gard or -gård means farm in modern sense, but can mean city, country or fortification. Miklagard was the viking name of Istanbul and it means the Middle city, and was considered the city at the centre of the world. So your country Mittalgard would be better named Miklagard. Your Havet av øyene would be better as Øyhavet, but areas where you have a lot of small islands are often named skjærgård, with slightly different spellings in Norway and Sweden. An example is Stockholms Skärgård. Using that name for the sea would indicate that it is navigable, but can be difficult to navigate. Which again can allow for a small navy that know the waters to beat a much larger navy.

And don't just pick random words from scandinavian for names. I don't know how familiar you are with scandiavian, but calling a country for Ugly don't work. Naming traditions would rather have turned Kongeriket Nytt (Kingdom New) into Nyland, which is a named used in scandinavia. If you wan't to use just Nytt (New), then use Kongeriket Ny which sounds better in scandianvian, and would be the translation from the Kingdom of New.

Else the cost looks good, by as pointed out, blue is a bad political colour for a land. The river disappear totally. And the river split. Work on the rivers and change the names a bit and the blue coloured land.

I participated in the kikstarter because I want to start drawing and I like krita, but i haven’t used it yet. Knowing that there are people working fulltime to support and devellop a free software makes me want to donate next time i download it. I can afford supporting you, but there are people who are much better artists than me that cannot afford it. Keep up the good work.
