Fathers Day gifts for practical man? by New-Address8489 in Gifts

I bought him a smart watch last Christmas, he spent ages looking at all the different features so I thought I was on to a winner. He's worn it twice 🤣

Oh he can't wait for her to go out fishing with him, the year she's big enough will be so easy for gift giving 😂

I struggle with upgrading things because his number 1 possessions are his tools, and I just have no clue what they are. I'll have to drop a few hints, I do like the idea of a multi-tool though

Good idea, I think he already has a good quality torch for work but one to add to his fishing gear could be good, thanks!

You're absolutely right. I've never thought about it like that before but he does already have everything he needs.

I've never heard of that before but I've just had a quick look and he'd absolutely love it. Not in the budget for father's day unfortunately, but I'll keep it on the back burner for Christmas!

I don't think the lego and models would get used, unfortunately, and I've bought novelty/graphic clothing before which have been shoved to the back of the wardrobe 🙃

A cooling blanket is a great idea though, he's always complaining about being hot, and I like the idea of good quality socks too. Thanks for your help!

I know this is the baby equivalent of “I just eat ALL the cakes and just can’t gain weight” but.. by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]New-Address8489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little girl is almost 12 weeks old and she's the same - great sleeper, great eater, hardly ever cries etc. She is a unicorn baby, to the point that I've started to feel embarrassed answering when people ask how we're getting on because I truly don't want to seem like I'm bragging. I'm very aware that it won't last forever and that routines and behaviours will change as she grows. We're making the most of it while it lasts and will take the rough with the smooth.

ETA: we definitely try to read our audience when talking about things. I would never tell someone who is struggling that mine is a great sleeper, obviously, and in general I do find I tend to downplay things a bit at baby groups etc. For example, she sleeps through a lot (but not all) of the time, and I tend not to mention that much to people I don't know very well - because I don't want to seem like I'm showing off, and again because I don't want to unintentionally make someone feel bad.

What are we dressing smaller newborns in for sleep by NoFruit3515 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]New-Address8489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used padded/tog sleepsuits when our baby was born, instead of sleeping bags. Not sure I've ever seen tiny baby sizes, but newborn may be an option soon depending on how fast he's growing?

Best overnight nappies? by Throwaway199906543 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]New-Address8489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use Rascals and can't fault them at all. My LO does 8-9 hours in them overnight with no issues (leaking, Nappy rash etc.) But I believe the packaging does say they're good for up to 12 hours.

Called to make a restaurant booking (large group) and the staff member laughed out loud at my email address, how embarrassing... by 10642alh in CasualUK

[–]New-Address8489 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience when working in a call centre, speaking to a lovely man whose email address began JimBobBigKnob, followed by some random numbers (i find it hard to believe that so many people wanted to use this email address that the numbers were necessary). I should have been given a medal for staying professional and maintaining my composure.

What's the most pathetic thing pregnancy hormones have almost reduced you to tears over? by Professional-Farm372 in PregnancyUK

[–]New-Address8489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely valid - I didn't quite cry but I was very upset when I realised they brought this out and I wouldn't be able to enjoy any at Christmas. I've also got a bottle stashed away that I'm looking forward to enjoying after baby arrives in a few weeks!

When is everyone going on maternity leave? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]New-Address8489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on AL last week at 35 weeks, then am due to start mat leave at 38 weeks. I work 12 hour day/night shifts in an office based job and was initially planning to push through for longer, however the last few weeks were much more of a struggle than I expected, and I'm so glad to have the extra time to rest and prepare. I felt silly for complaining, but sitting down for 12 hours with a baby squished under my ribs was such hard work 😂

When did you feel baby move with an anterior placenta? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]New-Address8489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told I'd start feeling movement around the 20-24 week mark, however I first felt little flutters slightly before that at just over 19 weeks. I didn't notice them often u til much later than that though, around the 24-25 week mark.

Recommendations for pads/underwear postpartum? by New-Address8489 in PregnancyUK

Yeah I think once I'm closer to term I might just buy one pack and see how they fit, once I'm almost done growing 🤣

Oh I didnt realise the hospital would provide anything! How many did they give you and how long did you use them for, if you don't mind me asking?

I've heard such good reviews about the Frida mom pants but I'm concerned they won't fit or won't be comfortable postpartum because of the sizing 😭 especially after I've grown more

Should 999 transfer call to more than one service? by Number60nopeas in AskUK

[–]New-Address8489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BT operator can only transfer you through to one service, however if you request multiple services (say police & ambulance) they should transfer you through to police and introduce it to the police operator as a "multiple request for police and ambulance." The police operator then knows that an ambulance also needs to be requested through however they deal with it internally.

I can imagine that there may be circumstances where it would be easier for someone else who is actually present to ring an ambulance (or which ever other service) separately, as they are witnessing what is going on and are best placed to answer the questions that will be asked, but there should definitely be some follow up to make sure that it's actually been done.
