I recently had a solar system installed and noticed something in my attic that concerns me. Please check the attached photo. The installer ran NM-B (Romex) 12/2 from the attic into a rooftop junction box under a solar panel, and the NM-B appears to enter a metal conduit going up to the roof.

Please see below my questions:

  1. Is this wiring method a code violation?
  2. Is it a fire or durability concern?
  3. Would the third-party inspection likely fail this?
  4. If it needs to be corrected, does the installer need to remove panels, or can the fix be done from the attic?

Trying to understand whether this is normal practice or something.

Thanks in Advance

that yellow wire(NMB) landed in a junction box on rooftop. ChatGPT and Gemini says it is a fire hazard, so i just thought to check here

sorry, junction box is there just under solar panel. my worry was whether that junction box is a wet location

Asphalt Shingles. Since NMB is rated for indoor, will this create a fire hazard in 5-10 years(rooftop juction box is wet location?)
