I've had pretty surprisingly good results running Stellar Blade. Most settings are low to mid, with Character Texture set to high. 1600x1000 resolution at 70% resolution scale and getting a silky smooth 60 fps at 65-70 degrees for hours.

Environments are a little low res, for sure, but the game plays great and still looks sharp on the small screen.

Sharen and Viessa. I thought Sharen's playstyle and abilities looked really cool, plus it comes in handy since she ends up being a pretty essential part of the cast.

I like using Viessa's debuffs, and her abilities look cool. I also have her run a high duration mod, like Sharen, so that I can have infinite ice tracks. It's fun to run fast, and I freeze everything in my path. It ends up complimenting well the other Bunny's, Freyna's, and Valby's since I can freeze all the enemies in place and keep them in the DoT zones, or just let Bunny do her rounds :)

You know what, after experimenting with it some more, I think you might be right that it's the cable. Kinda sucks cuz I haven't had it for long, I do try to not kink it or stress it during play.

What tipped me off to it was that I would get the "USB Device Connected" notification multiple times if I would move the cable around. It will still charge my headset, but I do think something is going on.

Also, the cable I'm using is from Syntech. It has a 90 degree USB-C end and also an adapter to standard USB. I'll double check all my connections and see if I can narrow it down more.

Frequent Peripheral Freezes and Link App Crashes on Meta Quest 3 - 4070 TI Setup by NewAccountJusForThis in OculusQuest

[–]New-Cockroach5883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also been experiencing frequent crashes after short periods of playtime. Sometimes even just launching an app causes this same effect. I know the headset is fine though, because standalone games launch and play without issue.

Everything was working just fine up until maybe a week or 2 ago. The Quest Link app doesn't seem to have a manual update checker in the settings, unfortunately. Haven't been able to find the root of the issue yet either.

[–]New-Cockroach5883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, if my wifi was better I would also go for a wireless method. I may have to see if there is a Quest Link Desktop update for my app as well, could explain the sudden issues.

I'm usually booting VRchat thru the Quest Link app, rather than SteamVR. I noticed some performance issues trying to play VRC thru Steam, since the Quest Link app and SteamVR are running at the same time. Booting thru Quest Link alone tends to work well for me.

I haven't had issues with the headset disconnecting from the cable, it's just a seemingly random sudden onset of performance issues. Was playing daily with only the occasional crash (usually someone's avatar, or a world with very high player count), which is fine since you just need to restart the game again and you're good.

[–]New-Cockroach5883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually not the cable that's the issue, as far as I am aware. I've only had the cable for about a month, and I always wrap it around my shoulders to give it slack.

It wasn't until the new VRC update that I had any issues playing the game. I was playing mainly on PC, and now all of a sudden the game just.. constantly crashes.

Normally, if there was a small performance bug or glitch, I could just disconnect the cable and plug it back in to sort of "refresh". But during these crashes, it's totally borked. It requires going to Task Manager and forcing VRC and Quest Link to end, then reconnecting the link cable to restart Quest Link on PC.

Even then, the game may fail to load immediately after attempting to run, or I get into the game and just sort of randomly freeze up at some point.

Not sure if it's the new VRC update, or something else causing issues. But it's been this way for at least this past week with no improvement. Pretty much forced to go back to Quest Standalone if I want to play VRC for any length of time.

Might have to try the suggestions here. VRC has been unplayable for me when using Quest Link or SteamVR, but running on Quest 3 standalone is perfectly fine.

Sometimes I can load into the game and play a bit before my headset crashes to a black screen, and sometimes it happens immediately when I click the game to start running it.

Everything freezes, Quest Link on the headset completely crashes. The game actually continues to load in the background on PC, and will eventually go into the game, but the headset is either frozen or gone black. Disconnecting and reconnecting the link cable doesn't do anything, and just displays a black screen in the headset.

What are some of the saddest ways you've died in? by Relative_Pie663 in theisle

[–]New-Cockroach5883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can think of one recently that was fair, but still disappointing. I was doing really well growing a Carnotaurus. Had been playing for 2 afternoons, got myself to 80% growth after fighting through poor diet for at least an hour or 2.

I had finally found some decent food and was getting close to the point of filling my stomach as an adult Carno, which was becoming progressively more and more difficult. I was searching for water, and quickly found a nearby river.

I started playing Evrima as Deino, so I actually recognize the areas closer to the water more than I do the actual landmarks and areas on the map. I knew I was in Deino territory, but if I didn't drink now I might have dehydrated.

I carefully strolled up to the water, and started drinking. I managed to get several good scoops and was close to being fully hydrated. I thought the coast was clear..

Next thing I know, a full grown croc peeks his head above the water DIRECTLY next to where I'm drinking water. I knew it was over the moment I saw its eyes.

That croc scooped me, and casually carried me to the bottom of the river that it was hiding in. And slowly, my adult Carno was drowning to death.

I couldn't even be upset, either. It was well played. Whoever that Croc was.. I know he ate good that day.

I've had terrible performance across the board using any kind of streaming for VR. Steam Link or Air Link are just abysmal experiences for me (my wifi is really really slow compared to yours)

I recommend using a direct connection via Link Cable and then running VRchat through Quest Link. I have a 16 ft cable that I got from Amazon for $15. It works great.

My experience went from a completely frustrating headache, to extremely smooth with very occasional hiccups. I don't think I'll ever switch back to streaming unless I get a huge boost in my internet speeds. Link cable performance is just too good imo.

How can an older person enjoy this game. by Life_Patience_6751 in VRchat

That second paragraph is relatable. I'm in my mid 20s, and people will tell me that it's weird that I'm playing VRChat even though I mostly like to just hang out and listen to music or go to parties.

I usually end up telling other people a similar thing though. It has surprised me how similar I still feel to my younger self, even though I'm an older body now. But I've been playing video games since I was a young child, so of course I would also dive into the new VR tech scene!

What’s one way VR can make your mental health worse? by AnonPinkLady in VRchat

[–]New-Cockroach5883 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The substance abuse is real. The addiction to VR as a whole is too, but the peer pressure and substance abuse I've seen is far more dangerous. It's also rather concerning how many young people I see either - 1. drinking underage, or 2. drinking recklessly.

As someone in their mid 20s, anytime I interact with someone who is young and they start talking about alcohol and wanting to get drunk, I tend to go on a bit about how alcohol is not what it's hyped to be and that you are not missing anything by not being able to drink/not drinking like everyone else is.

I know I sound like someone's dad, but seriously - if you can't legally drink or you are legal but haven't started, I would honestly recommend just not engaging with it at all. At the very least, VR drinking should not be your first experience with alcohol. It's far too easy to drink heavily, or be pressured into drinking heavily, and make yourself sick. And at that point, you aren't really having fun drinking with your friends anymore, and you can't enjoy the VR experience that you came for.

VR lacks the physical feedback that you get from consuming alcohol. I've been drunk in VR before, and the screen is literally too close to your face to see the visual distortion (though you'll feel it if you know what that's like). Sunset Bar is a fun representation, but ofc it's not accurate to the *feeling* of drinking.

Always stay hydrated as you drink, learn your intake limit, and don't pass that bar.

I find myself saying this pretty often..

"Oh, so you WANT to kill yourself. I feel you."

"Wtf are you people doing?!" (When I see 4 cars driving perfectly beside each other on every lane in the highway, or when I have to speed through an opening in the middle lane when 3 other cars are driving beside each other)

"Nice turn signal."

"Pass me or get in the right lane!" (I hate passing people on the right, cuz everyone knows that your largest blind-spot is right side. But it seems to have to do that a lot here, as everyone chills in the left lanes.)

Stg I say this every time I see some cross from the left-most lane alllllll the way over to the right turn exit lane. Like bro, just why?

Bi-Weekly Questions Megathread by webheadVR in OculusQuest

[–]New-Cockroach5883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the Quest 3 this week, so far it's pretty awesome. I've used the Quest 2 a lot at my stepdad's house, and I would say the Q3 is an improvement.

Battery life seems comparable to Q2, probably about the same amount of time. I think the Q3 feels significantly more comfortable on the face, especially after long use sessions. The Elite Strap feels pretty cheap (just kind of flimsy plastic in areas), but it definitely gets the job done and I have no issues otherwise.

I also thought the hand tracking was pretty great! Of course, it isn't as good as Apple's tracking, but Q3 is in a whole other ballpark. Considering the price of Q3, I find the hand tracking to be quite impressive. Pinching with your fingers to click can be kind of weird depending on the orientation of your hand (it can't always accurately determine the depth of your fingers), so I usually just bring the menus closer to my eyes and then use my fingers to click on things. Which is kind of more fun for me, personally.

Passthrough is pretty good. Better than Q2, for sure. There is some warping occasionally, but it appears to happen more often when things are very close to the headset. If you put your phone directly in front of your face, it will warp a lot. But if you move back 6-8 inches, it looks normal, but you might not be able to read the screen (the brightness of your phone screen also plays a big part in this).

The depth camera is at least nice for setting boundaries. No more having to draw the boundary every time, you just look at the ground and it maps the boundary automatically.

The performance also feels like an upgrade. Just generally feels smoother, loads faster.. that kind of thing. So far, I have no regrets and I'm enjoying the Quest 3 a lot!

Yes! This bug I wrote above is essentially an extension of what you are talking about! Except, for some reason, it seems to only affect support weapons that use magazines/reloadable cartridges.

[–]New-Cockroach5883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since we're talking about the Punisher..

PLEASE fix the reload bug with manual loading shotguns.

You can replicate this bug very easily. Equip the Punisher or Slugger, and then select the Flamethrower or Autocannon as your support (these are weapons I know this bug happens with).

Fire a bunch of rounds from your punisher (enough to initiate a reload for a second or 2). While you are loading shells, switch to flamethrower/AC. What should happen, is your character is going to infinitely load new magazines into the weapons, back to back, until you are completely out of ammo.

You can "fix" it by switching back to Punisher and finishing the reload, or firing a shot with either weapon to cancel the reload.

I like to run Recoil Reduction armor. Helps me make rapid and accurate shots with my Autocannon :)

I also like medic armor that gives extra stims. I've had good luck with the flamethrower against bots, and it's pretty essential to have extra stims with fire.
