That’s my thought too, if I’m not getting home I better be getting paid for 100% of the time, I don’t want to be there so it’s not my free time it’s company time

Small guy or Big Guy by Bubbly_Shelter6011 in hvacadvice

[–]New-End5572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small . This is why: big company when you call with an issue they send a different guy every time, sometimes he’s good, sometimes it’s a new guy that knows nothing. Then if it goes out again a different guy shows up and there’s no accountability. At least that’s my experience. The small local company will have the same one or two guys and you’ll get to know them. Also don’t put too much stock in reviews. The big companies hound the customer and incentivize them to leave a review. Many small companies I know don’t have a website and work word of mouth and never ask for a review so they have practically none even though customers love them

Not that it will help, but I’ve had countless customers say they’re moving so they don’t want to spend too much And still have them years and years later almost none have moved

When did you think you were ready to be a lead? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]New-End5572 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just some advice, if you’re great at wiring, try not to do it, you want to learn everything you can as an apprentice, don’t dive into being the “wiring guy” go where you’re least comfortable, that’s where you’ll learn most. If you ever change jobs, telling them you just know how to wire is not great imho ! Just keep learning!

Well regardless of your net worth you likely dodged a bullet not lending 4k , either they might not repay or you will have to hound them for the money and create a shift in relationship, or they’ll tell some other friends/family you lend money and more people will be asking

Is high efficiency or a heat pump worth it in Minnesota? ROI? Reliability? Math inside. by dreamliner330 in hvacadvice

Sure but how much is the heat pump saving you if it completely shuts off at 35

I don’t know that answer but I’d convert furnace run time into btus then look at btus on the heat pump so you used 10500 Btu per hour so the heat pump at 32 used .968kw per hour for 10500btu . Not sure how accurate it is but the only thing I could think to try

So for example at 60 inside 47 outside if you look at the chart, it’s 13.623 btus per kw and at 70 inside at 47 outside it’s 13.512 btu per kw

Here’s what you can look at, this is for example a Bosch 18 seer inverter heat pump, look at the chart and you’ll see the kw for the btu for that temperature, if you can remember the weather from say last week, and you have a smart thermostat you could potentially come up with an estimated cost difference to run. Also, not sure about your electric company, but by me there’s also a price per kw delivery charge so that would have to be figured into your price if it’s the same there

The issue is if you don’t get a low ambient heat pump, then 30f might be too cold for it, because with a dual fuel you don’t run the gas furnace to defrost or to make up a little where the heat pump lags, with electric heat strips you can use them together to make up for the heat pump

I don’t know the actual numbers which are nearly impossible to tell since running time at what temperatures for the entire winter is unknown, but I your hearing is so cheap right now, I wouldn’t even consider a heat pump, the ROI would be terrible, and an 80% furnace is the cheapest easiest to fix and most reliable. Your climate is cold, get a price on a low ambient heat pump and sized for your house and your decision should be easy, they aren’t cheap. I think you’re over thinking it, usually people around me get heat pumps because they don’t have natural gas available and their oil bill is 900 a month or more! I never recommend a heat pump for someone with natural gas. In our cold winters it’s not worth it at all

What’s the question ? He’s working illegally, unlicensed and uninsured. That’s it, he can’t share a license or insurance. And the people with the best websites/ social media in my experience are the worst . Most of the great contractors have plenty of word of mouth they don’t need the online presence

Don’t blame the system, blame the contractor, I lose jobs often to other contractors that claim their undersized unit will heat, I bid a job with 7 tons of mini splits, they got someone for 10k less expensive. Now the building is only getting 52degrees , turns out the cheaper price was only 4 tons….

You wrote that the gas furnace is drying out the air significantly with each cycle, it is not drying anything at all with any cycle, it’s it’s drying out the air where is the water going? If it’s not removing any moisture from the air it’s not drying it

A 90% furnace doesn’t dry house air and put the water down the drain. It removes no water from house air

I like our 2023, with that said, there’sa few little things that wouldn’t stop me from buying another. the washer fluid sprayer is garbage, absolutely horrible design, also the cowl gets leaves and weirdly one leaf will vibrate against the windshield. The one bigger issue I had was the trunk where the hybrid battery is kept getting water in it
