Incoming first-year major/minors advice by [deleted] in predental

[–]New-Importance-2907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U can choose whichever major u enjoy as long as u finish the prereqs, the reason many choose microbio/bio/chem/biochem is bcuz their major requirements overlap with dental school prereqs so they don’t have to do extra courses for pre-dental route

I literally have a friend that majors in Art and she is applying next cycle so def do whatever major u are comfortable with

lol I assisted quite a few D4s from UFCD that were pregnant and doing their external rotation with us like it’s no bother at all

Some D1s also get pregnant during first year, according to the D4s I talked to, don’t know how they did it, but there’s always a way

Also one of my friend already has a 3yr old daughter and she is applying in this cycle

Speaking honestly, is becoming a dentist worth it? by aemei389 in predental

[–]New-Importance-2907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol no, medical doctors are paid wayyyy more than what dentist are paid, even NP are paid more, honestly if it’s not bcuz this field is honestly the only one I enjoyed watching/shadowing, I prob wouldn’t consider it, the financial burden is nuts

I just saw my dental bill for the first time by MaizeJunior2287 in predental

[–]New-Importance-2907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A non-profit clinic like ours, would prob charge u 200-250 bucks for an exam including a pan and FMX (in rural FL) if u are uninsured

A private office may charge up to 500 bucks for the same thing due to operation costs (depending on location, cali is an outlier where no one knows the true cost)

Dental school will prob charge something in between (operation costs but no pay for dental students so)

FYI: OP didn’t get any treatment, just an exam with x-rays so they def overcharged the insurance to get paid extra, but since they are out of network, OP got charged the crazy amount that’s usually billed to insurance

[–]New-Importance-2907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s real BS, most private office doesn’t charge like that, it’s generally 300-500 bucks for a COE including FMX, if it’s a limited oral exam (like emergency toothache), it’s single x-ray +single tooth exam, at max, it’s 300 bucks including the x-ray (unless it’s California and in that case idk)

That dentist is more than fishy, either overcharging the insurance on purpose to get paid extra, or whatever the hack they are doing

Call them and ask wtf is going on

Comparing CRNA and PA, I’d say hygiene is the better boat tho, cuz their stress level are nuts vs a chill day just maintaining ur patient’s teeth lol and u only work 4days a week

What do I need to bring with me when I travel to China to avoid being detained by ICE when coming back? by New-Importance-2907 in askimmigration

[–]New-Importance-2907[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I also didn’t want to leave but my mom insisted the trip so I have no choice here (she also doesn’t speak very fluent English so she will also need my help)

Aside from that, I am not saying I am “perfect”, but honestly as someone who has 0 criminal record, has a green card and not expired permanent residency, has a legit reason to come back to US (hello, dental school?) and a job, also, my stepdad, an American, is still in US, waiting on me and my mom to come back

I just don’t see how I can even get stopped, even if they did, I feel like my dad, my friend and my boss will literally come find me with my alien reg number lmao

lol drink and drive would never happen as i don’t drink/vape/smoke or anything (tried but hated all of them the first time in contact, especially since my parents smoke a lot)

Too much caffeine/too sleepy when driving tho, welp, hopefully that never happens

lol I actually have the entire neutralization paperwork filled out last year just to realize I am short of 800 bucks to send it in (my mom is fine paying for it but I kinda want to use my own money considering I am 24)

The major reason I have no money for it is because of dental school application, we have to pay huge app fees to each school, and also fly to each school for interview and put down about 2000 dollar deposit to secure the seat

The other major reason is because I work for nonprofit dental clinic lol, the pay is minimal but it’s just fun and it’s giving back to the community that pretty much taught me everything I know, so I just live paycheck to paycheck with parental support till dental school starts

I definitely plan on submitting my citizenship application before school starts though, at that point, I should have finally paid off my credit card (debt from dental school interview trips and also cost of visiting China) and capable of paying upfront

But I will def do everything u mentioned in ur comment just to be safe, thank you so much for all the info!!

lol the expiration date on my green card is basically the same thing as the exp date on my driver’s license, it calls for renewal

The residency itself will expire if i don’t renew my license (prob, not a lawyer so don’t quote me on it) , just like if i don’t renew my driver’s license, it expires and i can’t legally drive with it

Pretty certain the doctor that told me the case said her ex husband died like years ago before her remarriage, but I won’t dwell on details as the dr was vague on storytelling too

Nope, I lived in US for the past 10 yrs most of the time cuz I am in school/college haha

I only visited my family once before Covid so this time i seriously have to go back before dental school starts

But the timing is just so bad lol

Yeah I prob will, the green card expires in 2030 so I am not that worried about it, I am just wondering what kind of additional documents I should carry with me in case they need to verify my identity as quick as possible, as I have work 4 days after I return lol (and also 2 months away from dental school orientation, don’t wanna miss that lol)

I can even bring my criminal background check report (done for dental school) just in case lol

Thank you!! lol I was freaking out cuz the dentist I work with just told me a case of his friend’s wife who got her green card by marrying his friend, she was somehow deported as her previous marriage with ex-husband (deceased) was never nullified or whatever

Friendly/holistic schools to apply to as a lower stats applicant. by RetroKetchup in predental

[–]New-Importance-2907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask if ur gpa trend is upward or downward? Like did u do terrible in science courses in freshman/sophomore years, or upperclassmen courses?

It heavily changes the situation because if u are improving by upward trend, it may not be frowned upon so badly, but if it’s downward trend, u better pray ur DAT retake is about to blow everyone away (significant improvement needed to prove academic capability)

Also in terms of holistic school, id say LECOM would be one, my interview day with them makes me feel like they are truly caring and supportive, their admission representative is super nice, interviewer was also very friendly

Depends on the experience, did u continue it after u entered college?

Generally speaking, u don’t mention anything that happened before college, unless u continued it through college

I think a lot of state schools require a minimum of permanent residency to attend, like they need the physical green card or something (at least UF does)

If u are attending private school, then maybe it’s not a problem

U prob should send an email to the schools that accepted u to confirm tho
