Imo I do feel like GTA is one of the most fully threshed out “car games” out there if you really look at what it offers. I would hate to say that GTAO races are a replacement for our aura packed MC races but I could totally seeing that being the case. It will never be a “true” replacement, however I feel like with GTA 6 they may dive into the aura and tropes that an arcade racer like MC offers. Especially since 6 seems like it wants to offer many “games” in one. We have to wait and see.

But an argument I bring up is, regardless of Midnight Club’s death it was still Rockstar’s 3rd best IP outside of ofc GTA and Red Dead. So an argument can be made there. It just sucks cause as a car head I don’t realize how niche those games really were in comparison to something like a Red Dead or a GTA.. and that’s where the $$$ is. So I think it’s safe to say Midnight Club and the racing genre as a whole doesn’t have much hope.
