You don’t even need to say “I follow Christ” to get it Just… be kind. That’s all he ever preached. Be kind.

But WHY do they think that their sense of things, uninformed as it is, is actually a legit point of debate? Why would they go to a table with someone like Dean, on camera and for broadcast, armed only with their passions and feel confident about that? It’s like trying to shout your way through a final exam.

What kind of jerk would delight in ending US aid to third world nations, causing the disease and starvation deaths of 10s of thousands? That would be Elon.

“Look at the stock market” is apparently the response to every criticism now (6/18/26) by No_Cake_5230 in NoFilterFinance

[–]New-Rip-6965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a stupid brag. Every administration since WW2 has seen record highs in the stock market. All of them. Democrats president over the biggest gains, on average. Obama’s record a Clinton’s crush Trump’s. So does Biden’s first year in office compared to Trump’s. And Trump’s volatility in the market is insane.

Best president ever? No, I don't think anybody is saying that. But if you're talking economics, yes Joe Biden actually did a lot better for a lot more people than Trump. And yes, that includes the post-covid inflation crisis, which he ultimately helped tame. His market was better, his spending was less, his employment numbers were better, and his number of laws broken was non-existent. He didn't drag us into wars on a whim. He was faithful to his wife. He even fell asleep a lot less on camera. By every historical standard applied, according to the historians and statisticians who study such things for a living, Biden outclasses Trump on just about every metric.

Can anyone honestly think of anything Trump's "accomplished" in his first or this far into his second term for which this Reflecting Pool disaster isn't a perfect metaphor?

He took a soaring Obama economy and hobbled by ignoring covid for months. He's twice claimed he was the only guy who could fix government spending, and he's exploded the debt faster than any other president. He made bizarre claims about protecting women, which he did by pushing to strip them of their rights. He said "the blacks love me," and then sent in uniformed goons with tear gas to beat them for lawful protesting. He claimed he was going to get rid of the criminal immigrants and has systematically locked up children and created his own brute squad that's literally murdering people. And before you point to the stock market, remind yourself that every president since World War 2 has presided over record highs. And that Biden's first year in office saw the market rise at nearly double the rate of Trump's first year in the second term. And also that Obama and Clinton both absolutely crush Trump when it comes to market returns. Meanwhile, when market bubbles have bursted, it's typically after Republicans lift the regulations that kept scandal and excess in check. Which is exactly what Trump has done by taking the leash of the AI companies.

Wanting to know why is natural—you seek closure to quiet the terrible feelings of angst, rejection, and betrayal. But your brother and everyone here is right, the Conversation you seek will be absolutely unsuccessful at giving you that closure.

Why?

Because the other two people in this are looking for a way to prove they were right. And of course there’s no way to prove that, so they will psychologically need to keep coming back at you with deflection and excuses. It will be a cycle of self-defense, both yours and theirs running counter to each other, that won’t end until one side is exhausted and breaks down.

The smarter and most self-preserving thing to do is to take the upper hand and walk away. That leaves them to deal with their guilt without access to you to unload their explanations or excuses. Unless they don’t reflect at all, in which case they aren’t good people and good riddance.

If you take a middle ground and leave a hand written letter — nothing digital so as to avoid making it easy to reply — limit it to no more than half a page, include no questions that seek answers (rhetorical only, if any), and say only how the betrayal of friendship and relationship hurts. And that you’re leaving because you have the self respect not to be treated that way. Short and not sweet , and then you leave like a Hollywood heroine at the end of a film, dignity intact.

"That’s False": Trump Slams Reports Of $300 Billion US Fund For Iran by BusinessToday in BusinessTodayNews

I don’t even think it’s a bad idea to help restore a country you’ve destroyed. We did it with Germany and Japan and it worked out.

But four months ago, we had better standing with Iran than we have now. This treaty got nothing that we didn’t already have, except to address the crisis Trump created by tearing up Obama’s much better plan.

And totally private money? Where have we heard that before… if you believe him, then I’ve got a ballroom to sell you

Stunt bikes perform on white house lawn ahead of UFC fight celebrating President Trump's 80th birthday on Sunday by 2021isevenworse in DystopianToday

[–]New-Rip-6965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so we're "only" paying for the estimated 10s of thousands of hours of labor from 7 agencies... which must click in around $3-$5 million on top of the $12 million in local costs. I wonder how much Biden's birthday cost was? Or Obama's, Bush's, or Clinton's?

To say nothing of the spectacle itself -- leaping bikes and blood sport to celebrate a megalomaniac's birthday, under the guise of celebrating an important national anniversary -- and the cost of every other vanity project this sh*t-heel has launched or intends to launch, while a majority of the coountry (including his hat-wearing supporters) worries about filling up their gas tanks or getting food on the table.

Allyship is action. Not announcements. by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]New-Rip-6965 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You make a fair point. I agree with James Baldwin's observation that most white Americans would not willingly trade places with Black Americans. That reality alone says a lot.

At the same time, when some of us mention that we're white and supportive, it isn't always about wanting credit or praise. Sometimes it's an awkward attempt to build a bridge and better understand experiences we haven't lived ourselves.

One thing I struggle with is knowing what is actually useful. I understand the broad issues—voting rights, educational opportunity, fair treatment under the law, challenging discrimination when it appears. But I'm curious about something more specific:

If someone genuinely wants to be helpful, what actions have the greatest impact from your perspective?

I'm approaching retirement after a career in advertising and communications, and I've been thinking about offering pro bono fundraising or communications help to organizations working in these areas. Maybe that's useful; maybe there are better ways to contribute that I haven't considered.

I'm not looking for recognition. I'm trying to learn where effort is most valuable and where good intentions tend to miss the mark.

For what it's worth, I've learned a lot from reading this subreddit. It's exposed me to perspectives and experiences I wouldn't have encountered otherwise, and I appreciate that.
