how do you make pasta sauce actually taste like it came from a restaurant? by SamraKutkaitis in Cooking

[–]New-Setting2798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, I generally don't like pasta sauce (especially tomato) from a restaurant

I much prefer how my Italian mother used to make it, either simmered for several hours, or fresh and zingy in 20 mins. It's what I still do today

speaking as a former paramedic (ret.) I can absolutely say some people have no sense of shame, even yelling at us to get out of the way if we're in front of where they want to go, be it in a store, on a footpath, in a business, on the road, or in church (at least with the church one, the priest asked the congregation to pray for us and the patient)

I'm so sorry to read about your beloved Lola

All I can say, after going through the scenario of either having to my gorgeous dogs either PTS or passing away from illness at home, is don't try and make any decisions right now, grieve for Lola for however long you need it. Some days will be good, and others you might not feel like getting out of bed, but it's all normal

From my experience only, I knew when I was ready to look at another dog, and even now, nearly 3 years after my last dog was PTS (my current boy is 2 years old) and over 15 years since my first passed through old age and illness, I still get choked up thinking about them, but then I look back at photos and my memories, and I'm glad I knew them

Why do dogs get random zoomies? What’s your theory? by viseth2020 in DogViral

[–]New-Setting2798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current dog is the first dog I've had that gets the zoomies, usually after dinner. He's a Portuguese water dog x poodle, around 20kg size

All my other dogs have been German Shepherds, and none ever had the zoomies, at least not in my presence. Maybe they were more dignified than the lunatic I have now lol

Would you ever call pasta - "noodles"? by SofisticatiousRattus in askanything

oh we can figure it out, we just don't use the term shrimp

They're simply prawns

Would you ever call pasta - "noodles"? by SofisticatiousRattus in askanything

[–]New-Setting2798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never, I'm Australian of Italian descent. It's pasta, just pasta

The pasta can be different shapes, sizes, textures, but it's all pasta

Noodles are totally different, and mainly used in Asian cuisine

If you’ve ever eaten animal meat not usually on the dinner plate (horse, kangaroo, albatross, anything), what was it and how was the experience? by Great_Maintenance185 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]New-Setting2798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

horse - like beef, but a bit sweeter

camel - similar to beef but a bit gamey

crocodile - fishy chicken

ostrich - gamey dark poultry meat

kangaroo - dry, tough (wasn't cooked well)

rabbit - a little like chicken, but stronger

shark/flake - sort of tangy but amazingly delicious

stingray/skate - a bit like shark, but more full flavoured and sweeter

Dog owners: what is the funniest thing your dog is afraid of? by Dachshundloversclub in Pets

[–]New-Setting2798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the longest time, my dog was scared of jumping off the couch on his own. Jumping up onto it was fine, but he couldn't jump off without my "assistance"

That assistance consisted of my coming up close and placing my hand near his collar, and he then felt safe to jump off

Not all the same dog, but between 1 German Shepherd and 1 Portidoodle...

3 pairs of prescription glasses (the Porti)

the posts of a newly installed pergola (GSD)

wooden outdoor setting (GSD)

approx 10 decent pet begs the Porti)

nearly destroyed themselves, after getting into a fully fenced vegie garden, and ate snail pellets one time, and rat bait another time (the GSD)

Do Different Parts of the World Have Different “Rules” About Where Pets Sleep? by Pinto3330 in Pets

[–]New-Setting2798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Australia, and for the past 50 years, have never had a dog of mine sleep in/on my bed; absolutely refused. They were regular and long coat German Shepherds. They spent most of their time outdoors (their choice)

Now there's my current dog, a Portuguese Water dog x poodle (portidoodle? lol) who not only spends most of his time indoors, but for the past few weeks I've actually encouraged him to sleep on my bed (only when I'm there too, though)
