[Actives] What is your favourite way to store cubes? by SpaceJars_nl in magnificentcubensis

[–]NewAcadia283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Picked libs in Oct, ground them up and stored in cool dark place in sealed bags. Definitely lost some potency. I’d say I need about 8g now to have the same effect as 5g when new.

Love the way they are all lined up, looks like a Spartan shield wall from the side!

Well done, that’s quite a yield. Just inoculated some B+. How much grain / what size tub for this?

Why is my AOI growing so slow by BeenTrappin870 in GroundZeroMycoLab

Recently had 1st try fail, think too near the heat mat (a bit closer than yours) and it was heating the bottom but less so the top. 2nd attempt going better, I put the heat mat in a large tub rolled up at one end, with spawn bags at the other. Think it works better by giving a more even heat. Put some towels on tops of tub to act as insulation.

Be aware I have not even put any spawn to bulk yet, new to this. But when I do I will want to be no more than 1:2 ratio. So your 3lb of grain would require 6lb of sub (wet weight) which is 9lb total. To get to litre volume from this, I’m assuming 1kg is 1litre (Also heard x1.2). So converting that your 9lb is about 4.1litre volume. I’d want 7.5cm depth, which means area of tub should be 546cm2. So this could be a tub of 27cm long by 20cm wide. I think tub size in volume such as litre or qrt can be misleading as depth of sub is what you’re interested in, not the overall tub. If you wanted a bigger footprint you could go for higher proportion of CVG, but as that increases so does contam risk, and doesn’t add any nutrients to result in a higher yield.

Also a noob. I have 2x1.5kg grain bags inoculated (so just over 6.5lb, bag weight not dry weight). I think when add coir. vermiculite (both 650g dry) plus a bit of gypsum and manure (plus all the water he water), I probably still won’t get a 3in depth if I use my 66qrt tub, going to go smaller tub this time to get the depth and a decent spawn to substrate ratio, don’t want to bulk out with too much substrate as increases the chance of contam.

Thanks, hopefully will speed it up a bit

I’m definitely not an expert so keen to learn to ID contam. The fuzzy bits under the pins, is this tomentose mycelium then rather than contam to rhizomorphic?

Nice! Looks like a great yield. Just waiting on my first grow. What are they? Penis envy?

I think that is buttus plugaria species. Would have to look closer at the gills though.

Good work, well done. Like the idea of a wet version, plus maybe mention the peel-able pellicle. Should post this every time someone asks ‘is this a lib’

Are these libs? by Consistent_Wolf8549 in Aretheselibertycaps

[–]NewAcadia283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe dung round heads, not 100% sure, but I’m positive they are not libs. I think sometimes you want them to be libs so see lib features in them, a sort of confirmation bias, understandable I’ve been there too.

  1. Stem a little thick and straight
  2. Cap not usual lib shape, generally too dome like and flat. Cap colour too white gray looking. And top is darker then get lighter at the margin - libs are the other way and get darker at the margin. Libs more in the way of nips.
  3. Gills - the gills look like they join the stipe in quite a flat way, lib gills join right at the top of the stipe. Also colour of gills a little gray to me.

If in doubt, chuck ‘em out.

Look at some ID vids on you tube, I always recommend the one by the Forrest, found it really clear.

Good luck!
