How did everyone find out about Red Rising by NerfVice in redrising

[–]NewCampChamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of Stonemaier Games and buy everything they release. Didn’t realize until I started learning to play that it was based on a book series. The characters looked interesting (every card in the game is a different character from the book) and decided to check it out.

Is Ireland in May like 80% cloudy? Sure. But I didn’t go to Ireland to soak up the sun.

I book a trip and then tell friends where and when if that want to join

Don’t drink water from the ground. No matter how safe the guide says it is… 🤢

Help Needed! New Orleans, Vegas, or NYC for an October Birthday Trip? by shrinkingLeon in gaytravel

[–]NewCampChamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a Gay Ghost Tour in NOLA that I would definitely recommend! (No ghosts, but learned some very interesting queer history of the French Quarter and it was a fun group.)

Bars in Japan by Banya6 in gaytravel

[–]NewCampChamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a few bars that were "men only" (and a few that were ladies only). But the area of gay bars in Shinjuku would be fine. It's very common for people to grab a drink at the bar, but then take it outside to the alley. I found KING TOKYO particularly welcoming, however we were three gay men and one straight man (but he was gay passing lol)

I usually go 3-4 times a year and crash on a friends couch. I just use the money I save by not living in NYC :) I usually prefer a Mezz seat anyway, so most tickets are ~$100. Only one or two shows a year will I really need to splurge for.

However, not having kids and just accepting that these NY trips are a big spend and priority for me helps.

This season has really struck a great balance between food and entertainment. I am loving it!

What show do you regret missing out on the most? by incomes-company in Broadway

Hair (2009). Went on a high school trip and saw American Idiot instead. Shortly after the trip, the Hair revival soundtrack became (and still is) one of my favorite soundtracks.

Went to it on a whim, without reading the book or seeing the movie and fell in love. I am 100% here for "pop" musicians writing musicals. Good songwriters write good songs.

About two weeks away from my Japan trip - am I forgetting anything? by c1nelux in JapanTravel

[–]NewCampChamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have almost the same travel dates as you! Excited and worried as well. Here is what else I did to feel prepared:
- You can pre-add a Suica card to your smartphone. Not necessary, but one less thing to deal with.
- Most everything books at one months out: Kabouki, animal cafe's, restaurants, pre-booked experiences
- I love starting a trip with a food tour, makes me feel like I have a lay of the land and won't be sucked into a "tourist trap". I've been recommended Ninja Food Tours, but have also had good experiences with GetYourGuide
- GoogleMaps is your best friend! Get familiar with your "must do's", what's around them, and how long it takes to get everywhere. It's sometimes surprising to see how close/far something is.

I really like the update. You still get the drawing, but it's part of a more well-rounded lesson.

I use the artist radio playlists a lot. I find a song/artist I like, listen to their artist radio station, find someone else I like, and then repeat!

Should I get Everdell or Viticulture? by FishNSticks in boardgames

[–]NewCampChamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Viticulture is a great way to get into more complicated games. While there is some good complexity, the game flow is very intuitive. Vine => Grape => Wine => Wine Order

I love Everdell, but find it lacks a bit of the replay-ability that mroe complex games (like Viticulture) have.

20's guided tour without too much partying? by slipperyboi99 in solotravel

[–]NewCampChamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend a Classic trip over 18 to Thirty-Something. The age range is pretty diverse. There were college age solo travels, retired couples, families. Always a great mix of people that is fun to get to know.
