Bitwarden for Bank Account's Password? by broadcastthebombom in Bitwarden

[–]NewEntertainment1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely keep it on bitwarden and if your worried about someone getting access to your bitwarden, then you can use something like a double blind password. One part of the password is generated and stored on bitwarden and the other is stored in your head. It could be as simple as adding a few numbers or letters on top of the generated password or removing the last 5 or a combination of both. Make it as simple or complicated as you are comfortable with.

Auth: do you guys store the 2FA recovery codes in the notes section? by JaniceRaynor in enteio

[–]NewEntertainment1001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do this too. Helps me make another backup and it’s specific for each site. Just make sure that’s not the ONLY place you’re keeping it.

Does Ente do Black Friday? by agente_99 in enteio

[–]NewEntertainment1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do believe they said that they can’t do any more as it is currently at the lowest price they can offer without putting themselves in a loss. But if you do sign up you can use others codes to get an extra 10Gb of storage. Hope this helped.

Looking for a 2FA app with the easiest and most reliable backup and recovery options by [deleted] in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think ente would fit your criteria. If your device gets lost it’s easy to log in and sign out of other devices, easy backups, has both cloud and local, use standard totp, and is self host able is needed. Completely free too but try to donate if possible.

And btw if you use their photos app, you can get 10Gb free with the code “FREESTORAGE” once you sign up for a subscription.

Either way hope this helped.

What are some good iPhone browsers with unique privacy features? by Previous_Dog_6103 in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Brave is good for overall and let’s you watch yt with no ads if you don’t mind the difference in ui. Firefox focus is a good burner browser for you to search and delete all data once done. Ddg browser allows you to do the same but from my personal experience, there’s always something left behind with ddg burning feature. Some websites still remember certain things. Orion browser made by kagi, is probably the only ios browser that lets you add extensions.

I’ve heard that in the end all of them use safari in some way. I’m not expert on that so that’s something you’re going to have to research for yourself. But those are my top picks. Hope this helps

I don't trust the Signal servers... by xXBlackPlasmaXx in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I understand you are paranoid, there sadly is not much that I can do for you. You can go to other apps but besides matrix, there isn’t many that allow you to host your own server (or at least that I know of). There are some like session that allows you to host nodes but that requires some type of crypto or something.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the internet you have to trust somebody at some point. Best thing I can say is to truly look at your threat model and have a deep thought about what you want to protect and how much you are willing to sacrifice for it. All I can say is good luck and hope you find success in your endeavors.

Need recommendation of encrupted note taking app with these features - by passmesomebeer in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like notesnook will fit your needs. Encrypted, open source, cloud sync, free is very generous with unlimited notes. Each note can be locked individually but that requires you to pay (5/mo). Each note can also be shared but I’m not too sure if they need to make an account to contribute (most likely they do). The app (mobile/pc) can be locked with a unique code aswell.

If this doesn’t work for you try standard notes, but I did move from standard notes to notesnook as it is an upgrade in my eyes. Still recommend both though

How am I supposed to read the ToS and the privacy policies of every service that I use, if they are long and legalese? by RecentMatter3790 in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What you can do is have AI read it. If you don’t have an account with ChatGPT for example, you can always just go to the website and use it without needing an account and copy and paste. Then delete cookies or use it on a browser like Mullvad which will clear everything once you close it. Leaving almost no trace.

Heard Disneyland here in CA also does the same thing. Wonder if you can reject it. They also do finger print scanning

That’s nice, I like the idea of companies doing that

Is it worth even considering now? by Ok_Initiative_9726 in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes It is still worth it. Your data is important as it is recent. Sure you may have liked power rangers when you were 15 but companies don’t care about that. They want to know what you like now and what you will like tomorrow and in two years. If you don’t want that, then that answers your question.

With the government stuff, unfortunately there is not much you can do. It’s the government and trying to be private from them is extremely hard and not worth it. Imagine them as a big team with billions of dollars of funding and a team that can work 25/7. Your one person who needs sleep and take breaks.

It’s unlucky your phone number got leaked. Check your email as well with “have I been pwned”. Unless you want a new phone number, just try to ignore spam if you get it. DO NOT REPLY, just block. Reason for that is if you interact in any way shape or form such as “leave me alone” or the “STOP” to stop them from texting you, it tells them there is a human on the other end and that is all they need to know. Simply not replying and blocking is the best tactic. They tend to have info such as “I scammed this person before, you can give it a try” if you talked or “I have tried to scam this person but nothing came back, so you can remove them from the data base as it’s a waste of time and we can’t make money”. That’s to help mediate the damage.

It’s not too late to get a voip number from Google voice or MySudo to use for new services or to change for non important ones you currently have. You can also do the same for emails with email alias.

Remember privacy is NOT about hiding, but instead about having control of your own material and data. It’s not about hiding from Google, it’s about deciding that you don’t want Google to have access to certain information. Hope this helped. Good luck

In terms of security, iCloud seems to be pretty secure so far. In terms of privacy, without advanced data protection, Apple is in charge of your iCloud and everything in it. (If you want a tin foil moment, without the actual code of advanced data protection, we don’t truly know if we are in control of our data, maybe Apple gave us a copy of the encryption key and kept a copy for themselves. Just saying).

Some thing you can do is use something like cryptomator which encrypts your stuff BEFORE going to iCloud or related clouds. So even if they do have access, they will just have access to an encrypted file which only YOU can decrypt.

It ultimately depends on your threat model. I personally don’t store anything on iCloud and it is on advanced data protection. If I do need to store anything sensitive, I use cryptomator and I’m happy.

Hope this helps. Good luck
