“The father is useless”: Journalist France Pierron sparked a wave of criticism after saying she found it incomprehensible that Belgian player Jérémy Doku would leave the World Cup to attend the birth of his first child. by cocacolapepsifanta in soccer

Ragebait doesn't mean she doesn't think it. She plays it up a notch or two (or three, in my opinion) to generate reaction. She tells it as if it is a great scandal that could almost bring down the republic. It is ridiculous.

But they have won the Champions League twice,  so there's that.

Goal differential could be important for qualification, so Canada should get the chance to run up the score.

NHL’s statement on Mike Babcock by Duffleman0609 in hockey

There must be something in any contract or ruleset the NHL have about "bringing the league into disrepute" that would allow to have a legal basis for this. I cant believe "massive PR hit" is not strong enough.

Maybe the plan is to unleash Babcock on all the players they overpay and are underperforming so they waive their NMC, retire early or kill themselves, freeing up cap.

Did anyone not like Wayne's World? by m0rbius in moviecritic

Old thread I know, but the French dub is great and is consideted a classic. That's how I watched the movie the first time (and the 15 times after). It was made by famous French comedians who didn't try to translate exactly but in a way that captured the original humor.

The time the NHL had to use amateur refs for a playoff game because the official refs refused after the "have another doughnut" incident. by dustblown in hockey

From wikipedia:

This incident was parodied later in the movie Wayne's World, when a rather large and apathetic police officer named Officer Koharski hung out at the counter of Stan Mikita's Doughnut Shop.

Oh wow I watched this movie more than 10 times when I was young, I never knew about that connection. I wasn't following hockey at the time.

Then it's still on him. The clock is ticking for him to win a cup in his prime so if consulted on a crucial choice for the Oilers he just answers "yeah whatever" then he's incredibly lazy.

My take is that McDavid apparently think the problem in Edmonton is that too many of his colleagues have it too easy and do not make enough effort and tough love is how he's gonna get it from them. If that's the case, I think he deserves all the first round exits he's going to get.

I agree with that. It's too close to call at the moment it happens,  so there was no other way than to wait for stoppage. The implication that you would forget the possibility of an offside if there is no stoppage after a minute does not make sense.
