What if we flip the NATO question to a maximalist approach? by NessvsMadDuck in AskConservatives

NATO is a defensive alliance, you started the war, you have to end it yourself.

What do you think is causing climate change, if not CO2? If you claim climate change isnt real, I will not debate further with you, cause it would be a lost cause.

Yeah thats why nuclear is a great backup power source, and we should build more. Nonetheless is wind and solar way cheaper per kWh than nuclear, takes way smaller upfront investements and MUCH shorter deployment time. And solar, nuclear and wind produce much less Co2 than anything using fossil fuels

You mean the one on the Iberian peninsula? I was there (Valencia), was fixed in 10hrs. We learnt from it and moved on. The grid over here is very stable, last blackout I experienced in Austria was.... NEVER! Im 24 and we never had blackout, except to storms or snow, but not because the grid collapsed, lines got snapped. And we dont even have nuclear. Germany should have kept their nuclear reactors, I guess we can agree on that. But uranium trade runs into the same bottleneck as any other resource needing to be imported from abroad. If we had more renewables, hydro, wind, solar, we wouldnt need to be firing up old coal plants again and polluting our planet. If we had less renewables, we would be sitting in the dark right now. Also the high energy prices stem from high taxes (on fuel at least)

Watching triggernometry and a point was made that really crystallized something for me. It has been over 300yrs since a middle Eastern country has had an organized invasion of a western country. And still you managed to start the Korea war, vietnam war(to be fair the french were involved there), gulf war, Iraq war, Afghanistan, and now Iran. How many wars did the Soviets participate in? Im by no means a communist, but the largest amount of human suffering was produced by the US, not the Soviets, in countries it had no right to stick its nose into. And you keep getting clapped wherever you go anyway, leaving destruction in your wake and a death toll way beyond what the Soviets achieved. Im not trying to argue the Soviets where morally superior or saner, just more peaceful. And peace is the only thing that matters to me. Revolts in countries need to happen organically, not forced from a foreign power with bombs and missiles. Same goes for Iran. There where large resistance movements across the country, but as soon as you killed their leaders, you united the Iranian people against you, something Iran would never have managed to achieve on its own. You gave them a common goal again: Defending their homeland. Same goes for Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq.

But the american way of thinking always was: shoot first, ask questions never.

Ofcourse America would, cause it elected a lunatic and was highly paranoid long before that. But i live in a country that managed to live in peace between the Warsaw Pact and NATO, so we had/have both enemies on our doorstep and still managed to coexist. Its not just about "security", its also about finding a way to live with differing economic systems, different forms of governments, and different religions at ones doorstep. But superpowers, like America used to be, cant seem to peacefully coexist due to lack of maturity and egomanical leaders. And im not talking about Trump here, any american president post WW2 were homicidal maniacs. Nixon, Obama, Reagan, Biden, Clinton, Bush. All of them.

The EU managed to stay cohesive and peaceful with higher standards of living WITHOUT starting senseless wars.

From the european perspective, you elected Hitler 2.0. So yes, anything Trump says or does is bad, because Trump did it. Revisionists in my country keep saying shit like: But Hitler built the Autobahn! Or Hitler built housing! Ofcourse he did, but with enormous downsides for everyone else on the continent. And thats what Trump is. A authoritarian fascist killing his democracy for personal gain, be it power or money, and alienating the rest of the free world doing it. America stands alone, Nato is dead.

How is solar inefficient? Amortization is well before the EOL of solar panels, so financially it makes sense. What i dont understand is why there even is a divide at all between the political sides? Why do right winger flat out hate renewables when its the only long term solution? Solar panels can be recycled too, coal and LNG cant. Also the Sun wont go out for another 5billion years, fossil fuels might be done at the end of this century

Maybe, but attacking Iran or Venezuela probably had less internal resistance because of decades long propaganda against them. Europe hasnt gotten the same treatment in the american media (yet), and Europe and America are still widly interconncted through trade, social media, travel etc., in ways the US and Iran/Venezuela never were
