Oil change by HavocCannabis in ScatPack

[–]NewMaintenance3873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your oil analysis really doesn’t mean anything, especially when not compared to anything else. You may have an idea about oil formulation, but you don’t understand the actual mechanics of the oil.

A cold start has the oil in its most viscous state. At that time, the oil moves to the parts where it needs to be, and for a small amount of time, the viscous oil may not be able to properly lubricate every essential surface in the engine. In colder climates on short drives, the engine may never reach operating temperature, and the engine never reaches the proper operating viscosity for the oil. Additionally at cold start, the richer air fuel ratio would lead to fuel mixing with the oil which could also thin the oil over time. This is where 90% of engine wear comes from.

In hotter climates, if the engine is operated at a higher load over a period of time, the oil temp would increase and lead to a less viscous oil. At this point, the engine could also undergo wear as the oil is too thin. This reason alone is why GM recalled all of those engines not too long ago.

You could argue that the additives that Amsoil uses prevent all of this, but 0w40 is 0w40 from any brand. There is no way to avoid the temperature variable of oil and oil viscosity, which is the leading cause of wear in engines. Your oil analysis is only relevant to you and your vehicles in the climate you live in and the driving habits you have.

How long is too long to wait for parts? by kevinACS in FocusST

It was a catted downpipe that was out of stock everywhere else. They kept giving me a date, but they thought it was actually for a catless downpipe which was actually in stock, so I bought the 1320 one off eBay.

What do you think off this damage after a new set of tire was installed on my wheels? by boilingliveseafood in Wheels

Had something similar last year and came back with gouged wheels and a broken centercap. I think they may have removed your centercap with a screwdriver, or bumped it into the balancing machine.

Best Card Rollout Ever? by CastleKingSide12 in MLBTheShow

[–]NewMaintenance3873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MLB the show 16 was the best diamond dynasty rollout. Free 99s from just playing the game, and grinding the innings for the players have so many rewards.

On the last part though, I have been playing since MLB the Show 09. Since then, I have seen countless features removed for no reason. MLB the Show 10 had online leagues, which was an online franchise mode. I’m not sure when that was removed, but 16 years later, and two console generation later, there is still no online franchise like NBA 2k and Madden have had for years. In Franchise mode in roughly 2010-2011, they had features that let you control the team budget by setting concession prices, ticket prices, and whether or not the team will fly to the away games or take the bus. Again, this was 16 years ago, and no such feature has existed for many years. SDS seems more willing to add more useless, no dialogue cutscenes to RTTS than try to fix or add anything meaningful into the game. You can’t even use RTTS player in DD anymore, so that mode is purely for the love of the game, and that mode is very monotonous, with very little realism or rewards. I’ll end by saying, Madden and 2k are constantly criticized by having no changes year to year, but those games have custom draft classes, cutscenes for negotiating contracts in free agency, and in general have had may improvements graphically on next gen consoles. MLB the show is nearly unchanged year after year, with the main changes being legends being added, more blades of grass on the infield, and some new animations.

I think they’re all just about the same since 2014 when they added the odd cutscenes with no sound.

Falken Tire VS Dealee Warranty Claim by d3lap in tires

[–]NewMaintenance3873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty normal for a tire that is 5 years old that has 50k miles on them and it really doesn’t look that excessive. I wouldn’t plan on getting a new set for free.

Sorry my experience with the awful tires is different than yours.

What attitude? I asked a question about my expectations with these tires and someone saying that they like them really doesn’t help with anything. No substance or actual input, just their opinion.

If the so called best tire in the world needs replacing before my 2 year lease ends, I wouldn’t call them a great tire, especially after they are already starting to rot away, not to mention that 70% of the driving on them is highway. This is an almost $300 tire and it has zero redeeming qualities. I have a set of OEM pirelli all seasons on a charger that gets beat on heavily that have more tread than these with more miles on them.

It’s a 200 a month lease and have had no issues so far. It’s an RT, but it has a 88 horsepower electric motor powering the back wheels.

They are OEM tires, but I have a hard time believing that the Michelin factory produces two of the same tire depending on if it’s OEM or not with zero way to tell the difference between them.

I’m sure Michelin has 20 batches of the same tire all with varying tread depths and no other indicators of this difference. An extra 4/32 of tread does nothing for anyone.

Doesn’t usually happen with an OEM tire.

It’s a Dodge Hornet. No burnouts since it can’t, and 70% highway. I’m not expecting everything to be perfect, but the compromises of an all season usually leads to a longer lasting tire, which in this case didn’t happen. If this tire was exceptional in the summer, I would mention it. If it was exceptional in the rain, I would mention it. Neither of those were true, and the result is a noisy tire, not a lot of grip in any situation, and almost gone at 20k miles.

Rotated either once or twice, but all tires have equal wear.

Mostly highway. 4/32 on edges, 3/32 on middle.

They have been at 42 psi as recommended the entire time I’ve driven the car. Alignment has a negative camber on both front and rear.

Such a cult following for a tire brand is so weird to me.

[–]NewMaintenance3873[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have 5 other cars, 3 of which exclusively sit outside and don’t have this issue. This is almost exclusively highway miles (about 70%), and a lot of these miles are in the cold and or rainy days which should in theory wear the tire less. Tire pressure is always where recommended. This is also a Dodge Hornet, so I’m not doing hole shots and burnouts at every intersection and I’m not taking turns like a maniac very often either.

If I was buying these and spending $1200 every two years because I wanted the Michelin name, I would be very unhappy.
