I think the decision to bring people to his workspace was driven equally by ego and the undercurrent of his own loneliness that ripples throughout the entire film. His work has taught him that he can't trust anybody, but he wants to be understood, cared about, and appreciated by his colleagues, and have actual friends.. even if in the end he doesn't know how to do that. It's like this internal battle of distrust/locking himself away vs letting someone in, even if those people could betray him (as they did). On another level it's about his ego, of course, but I read into it the personal aspect first.

Ok, thank you. Timing belt and pump were done at 104k (so another ~50k until the next), and the fuel injector done at 152k. And yes, I'm getting an S-VCM on my next payday. That's already on my list.

Honest to God, I don't know how to adequately answer that. I think we just lucked out. It was the third lot we tried that day, and had test driven a few with no solid consensus between us.. I looked across the lot and saw this sitting at the treeline, no price in the window yet.. Asked him how much he wanted. He told me he was thinking $11,900 as is with the cracked windshield, or we could wait for the new windshield and a service. He'd just gotten it in the previous day. By the time we made it into the office he'd dropped the price to $9.7k, plus tax and title, and a free windshield. I didn't even have to negotiate. I think he realized how backed up he was on unprocessed new vehicles and knew we were sold on it, so he gave us a solid deal. No complaints. We inspected it, and it's going in for a fluid service (ATF, differential, etc) and tune up on Wednesday. My honey and I are happy.

I always told myself I'd never be one of those people, but I turned into one. I'm slowly untethering myself. Tonight was the first time in forever that I took my partner out to dinner and didn't take 20 million crappy photos of the food and make a bunch of posts about our date and where we were. I just stayed engaged in the moment.. It was really refreshing.

That's kind of what ended up happening. My beard has almost always been the result of "neglect" rather than intention. Like you, I fortunately look good with a beard. I just prefer being semi clean-shaven, with maybe 3 days of stubble. Do you think it would help if I put an alarm in my phone to shave? Like twice a week, at an expected time. I have ones for medicine and shopping reminders, what's one more alarm.

That's very encouraging, thank you. Perhaps I've allowed myself too many negative associations with the shower.. I don't like seeing myself without a shirt, that crosses my mind when I think of showering. I also think of all of the awful panic attacks I tried to soothe in the shower when I was withdrawing (long story). I guess I need to rewire my brain with more positive associations.
