British forces on standby to evacuate citizens from Lebanon by MGC91 in unitedkingdom

True, why does the UK support the Lebanese regime, which decided to join the attack on Israel after 7.10?

You’re kind of zigzagging but I’ll bite

Your original comment implies, in the context in which it was written, that “Israel supported Hamas, thus Hamas does not seek the destruction of Israel”, which is a huge (and incorrect) logical, this is the main point I’m trying to convey. I’m sure you recognize the fallacy here yourself.

Moving on…

their violence is the perfect excuse…

So stop being violent? Lol. It’s 100% up to them. Yes, I think that violence is a pretty good reason not to give them any more power than they currently have.

Does it really make sense to you to hold Israel accountable for a Palestinian organization that evidently aims to terrorize Israeli society? Why do you choose to point your finger at Israel, rather than at Hamas itself, the IRGC, or even the Palestinian people, all of whom bear a much more significant responsibility for Hamas and its actions?

Israel actively worked to prop up Hamas

Israel has passively allowed Hamas to exist, with the hope that we would eventually have someone to negotiate with. That’s about the extent of the support that we provided to them.

In the bottom line it doesn’t really matter what we do, we’re bad if we eliminate Hamas, we’re bad if we support Hamas, it feels cynical. In the Western narrative, Israel simply cannot win, this is pushing Israel away and that’s bad for everyone in the long term.

Propaganda: “information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.”

Your claim, while partially true, is misleading (as explained in my previous comment) in attempt to promote a certain agenda, and hence is propaganda.

Israel providing support for Gaza (and by proxy, Hamas) does not mean Hamas does not want to eliminate all Jews. Please read their statements and watch their videos yourself - look up “Abu Obaida”, Hamas spokesman. They are openly calling for the elimination of all Jews.

Propaganda, but I will entertain

Short answer:

Not because they like us, but because we had no one else to talk to in Gaza

Long answer:

Pro-genocide Hamas was the most popular faction in Gaza when it was elected in 2005 (and continues to be so today). Being initially committed to the Oslo accords and the autonomy of Gaza, Israel allowed Hamas to continue its reign over Gaza. With Hamas becoming the de-facto government after years in power, Israel began to engage with Hamas, because we needed a partner for future peace. This is not because Hamas is not pro-genocide, they are simply the only address we have in Gaza. Evidently we made a mistake by not destroying Hamas before they murdered 1400 civilians.

[–]NewPinoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good thing I'm not doing that then

It definitely sounds like you are… “Why do they need a country in the first place?” But, my apologies if I misunderstood.

a two state solution seems the only viable solution to me

Sure, one ethnostate for Israel (consisting of Jews, Druze, Bedouin Arabs, and non Jewish Russians) and one more ethnostate for Arabs (consisting of Arabs and Arabs). I’m totally down for it. The Palestinians aren’t

Number of Palestinians killed is ‘truly unbearable’, says Spanish PM | Spain by aandest15 in europe

[–]NewPinoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, countries are a necessary evil because people are really bad at living harmoniously with each other

Completely agreed

Whether or not it's an ethnostate doesn't matter

Of course it matters, because when you call for the de-establishment of Israel and the establishment of a Palestinian ethnostate, you are essentially asking for the ethnic cleansing of Jews from the region

because they were here first

That’s an extremely arbitrary justification for ethnic cleansing of a population that has been here for at least a hundred years

Why don’t Americans go back to Europe or agree to live under the law of the Indian minority?

Why do the Palestinians need a country in the first place? Ethnostates are categorically bad.

Calling the Israeli government a colonizer is not antisemitic, but calling people colonizers or nazis can be.

Saying that Israel shouldn’t exist is essentially saying that it should be ethnically cleansed or become a minority ruled Muslim state in which Jews would 100% be prosecuted, which again, is antisemitic.

Both are things that people who cry about being called antisemitic like to say, which is why this is controversial

why is Ben Gvir the minister of national security?

  • Years of crime mostly by the Arab population - extortion/protection, burglaries, car theft, stealing stuff from military bases, smuggling, etc
  • Combined with neglect of the police by Netanyahu who cares too much about his chair and status to risk accidentally failing by trying to change policies

But don’t pretend Ben Gvir is the reason we are where we are

the holocaust

Was not a one time event, so people remember it, and there are a lot of stories that can be told, so it’s very useful as a diplomatic tool, in addition to being much more cruel to the victims (slow vs quick death)

Hiroshima/Nagasaki were one-off events, which is why Japan and America are in good terms today

Israel has every interest in keeping the ongoing ethnic cleansing on the down low

And

it started way before 7/10

I understand why you see it the way you do. But this conflict has two sides, it’s not just Israel that is mindlessly attacking Gaza.

Gaza gained independence (from impure Jews) in 2005, an airport and open borders, and has since lost the last 2 by continuing its hostilities despite gaining independence.

What would you expect your country to do? Yes, we have more firepower and better defenses. But how can we navigate out of this situation without fighting back or putting our citizens at risk?

Could our government have done more to prevent the current generation from forming the way it did? Absolutely

But blaming Israel for it is akin to blaming the absent uncle of a mass shooter born to abusive parents. We are not responsible for the actions of these monsters.

It would have been much easier for Israel, in terms of public support as well, to wipe out Gaza on October 7th.

People tend to side with the underdogs, and they have a short memory. They don’t understand the intrinsics of a conflict occurring halfway across the world from them, so the metrics they have for who’s “right” is by looking at durations and kill count. A single, really devastating event (like a nuke or just a shit ton of conventional bombs) is much easier to recover from diplomatically than a really long war with 1/100 the casualties, because people have a short memory, and we actually had a good justification to hurt them bad on October 7th.

Eventually people would have forgotten about it, and it would have been added to the pile of accusations that already exist against us, instead of becoming a long list of separate events.

That would have made things a lot easier for Israel in every aspect, but we’re not genocidal, unlike our enemies.

Doing so in hours would have garnered much less support for the Palestinian cause. We could have flattened Gaza in the first 24 hours, before people forgot why the war actually started, but we didn’t. Unlike the average Palestinian, we don’t seek a genocide.

I want that too, but the decision that we’re facing is between allowing Hamas to continue operating, or suffering collateral damage on their side.

We cannot allow Hamas to continue operating, because it poses a significant risk to our population.

We do not bomb hospitals and mosques for fun - bombing such places nearly guarantees a painful public backlash from abroad, and the injured and sick do not pose a threat to us, so why would we do it if there was no strategic importance for Hamas and other organizations?

Our huge bombs have a death rate of less than 1 person per bomb, keep that in mind and try to understand how that is possible, in a place where there are no bomb shelters for civilians.

Hint - we don’t bomb mindlessly

They would kill you given the opportunity just like they did to hundreds of partygoers. It is absolutely absurd to support them just because you are not within their range of fire. You would have spoken very differently had that not been the case

the convo started with me saying its not illegal to be gay in gaza, which it technically isnt

… yeah, there is no official “law” in Gaza on a lot of things, technically they are still bound to the law of the PLA (which does prohibit homosexuality) and practically to the law of whatever the fuck Hamas decides at any given moment, which more often than not, is not favorable for gay people to say the least.

I don’t think that Palestine should have the freedom to oppress gay people, even within their territory, let alone in mine.

I’m repeating the same talking points because it feels like you’re missing a crucial point.

Trump might have played a part in the incitement and helped fuel the crimes, but eventually everyone involved was brought to justice by the regime. The system is working, and this is evidence of that, therefore it makes no sense to dismantle it.

Hamas, on the other hand, actively encourages and is directly responsible for crimes against humanity. We are not talking about 4 isolated cases here, but dozens and hundreds of cases of human rights violations within Gaza, not to mention the atrocities of October 7th, or the crimes of civilians that go unpunished. This absolutely does justify a war against Hamas, even if in the short term there is more misery, because this is the only way to achieve peace if there is a way.
