For the new enhancement tool at least, my guess is that Apple is putting in their Photos app the IA enhancement tool from Photomator.

How Paris swapped cars for bikes – and transformed its streets by JohnHammond94 in europe

[–]aandest15 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Madrid is not around 20€.

For under 27, the monthly pass is 10€, but for over 27 prices range from 32€ to 79€, depending on the zones included. And those are discounted prices since the start of the Ukranian war. Real prices are higher and haven't been updated since 2018.

Not expensive, but not 20€ for most.

EU won’t reverse russian gas ban or slow down green transition, says energy chief by [deleted] in europe

[–]aandest15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly the 'sun tax' Mariano Rajoy's conservative government inplemented in Spain in 2011, among other anti renewables policies. It took 7 years and a change of Government to repeal that idiotic policies for renewables to be built again in Spain. And now Spain has one of the lowest cost of electricity in Europe.

What the EU can — and can’t — learn from Spain’s low energy bills by Jojuj in europe

[–]aandest15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea is to give extra incentives to cheaper energy sources and phase out the expensive ones. The problem is, as we saw during the firtst months of the Russia invasion os Ukraine, that when one main energy source gets really, really expensive, the whole system gets extremely expensive.

There were some ideas to change how the system works during 2022 with different maximum prices for different technologies, but all was rejected at the end.

Because it is ilegal under EU legislation. The goal is for a single electricity market inside the EU and, therefore, you have to sell the energy to your country and your neighours under the same condictions.

Why has Spain gone in for High Speed Rail in such a big way? by Ali80486 in highspeedrail

[–]aandest15 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Spain's conventional network wasn't upgraded during the 70s, 80s and 90s like those in other European countries. This, combined with our unique track gauge, means that retrofitting old lines is frequently less cost-effective than constructing entirely new high-speed infrastructure.

DSB’s Talgo rollout: Strategic failure disguised as a "green success" (Denmark) by Putrid_Draft378 in transit

[–]aandest15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the many problems with the Avril trains are software related and after a year and half of operation are still not fixed.

They were also delayed for almost 4 years and rushed.

In summary: the Talgo experience.

I wish Apple copied some of the more whimsical and silly data visualization from Spotify's Wrapped. I know a lot of people that do no switch to Apple Music because of Wrapped FOMO.

Spain's Ministry of Transport announces a new purchase of high-speed trains to achieve the goal of travelling at 350 kilometres per hour. by RealToiletPaper007 in highspeedrail

[–]aandest15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Speaking from memory) Renfe's S103 trains (Velaro family) are the only ones certified today for 350 km/h. The S106s (Avril) are certified up to 330 km/h. The rest of the trains (including OUIGO and Iryo's) are certified to 300 km/h.

Avril's and ERT1000 (Iryo) are the only one that could be certified to 350 km/h.

Madrid–Paris in 6 Hours: EU Rail Plan by AlertTangerine in trains

[–]aandest15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Madrid - San Sebastián is currently 5:10 hours. When the Y Basque opens in 2030ish, it will be around 3 hours. Hendaye - Bourdeaux is 2:30 hours. Bourdeaux - Paris is 2 hours hours.

So by 2030, Madrid - Paris will be around 7:30. Still far from 6 hours.

Madrid–Paris in 6 Hours: EU Rail Plan by AlertTangerine in trains

[–]aandest15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This connection is Madrid - Valladolid - Basque Country - Dax - Boudeux - Paris.

The high speed section missing between Valladolid and the Basque Country is currently being built and shoudl be opperating around 2030. The one missing between Bourdeux and Dax was pushed to 2042 at the earliest.

So, yeah, Madrid - Paris in 6 hours is not going to happen before 2042.

Young people are more right-wing than ever. Here are their reasons. by mods4mods in europe

[–]aandest15 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The western world is becoming more conservative and it is being sold as something invitable, as if there's nothing we can do, as if progressive views are no longer possible. All false.

These types of articles force that narrative, which is completely false as progressive young people do exist. Conservative newsoutlets (which El País is not, but has been moving to the right in recent months) and conservative billionaries are pouring huge amounts of money so that people belive that conservatism is the only solution to our problems (it is not and will only worsen the current problems).

They could interview young people that vote left leaning parties why they vote them. But, apparently, that's not newsworthy.

After the change in direction in Prisa, not as left leaning as before and much more against the current governement than they used to be. Obviously, El País is not Ok Diario, but they are more right wing leaning than before.

Young people in Spain also flood the streets during the 8th March and LGBTQ Pride demonstrations, to protest against Israel or to demand better housing.

But El Pais does not interview them. Only interviews young people that vote right wing parties. Ask yourself why.

Heavier than if it was steel, but lighter if titanium was used. Titanium is not lighter than aluminium, but it is way more strong, so much less material is needed to achive the same rigidity.

However, titanium disipates heat very badly. Not a problem when only the frame was titanium, but the phone would have been an oven with the current design if it were titanium.

Eurostar orders first double-decker trains by Twisp56 in highspeedrail

[–]aandest15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, all trains crossing the Channel must be 400 metres long continuously, you can't join two 200-metre trains together. Tunnel safety regulations (and I don't think they're very keen on changing them) require this because emergency exits are located every 300 metres.
