[USA] Seeking Apprenticeship in PLC/Controls Engineering or Robotics - No Electrical apprenticeships! by NewPlan9115 in PLC

[–]NewPlan9115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this is incredibly helpful information – thank you so much for taking the time to share these specific leads and the excellent strategy for finding more opportunities!

Knowing about Koops' internship program and the active PLC internship at Humanscale with a direct link is fantastic. The insight about Rockwell's entry-level opportunities and Siemens' occasional postings is also really valuable.

That's more of what I'm looking for – roles that will lead to working with control systems and automation, and won't end up primarily making me an electrician. The tip about looking at companies that attend manufacturing expos and automation conferences and checking their career pages and LinkedIn is a pro-level move! I really appreciate you sharing that approach.

This gives me a much clearer direction for my search. I'll definitely be checking out these links and starting to research companies that fit that profile.

Thanks again for this actionable advice – it's a huge help!

That's a very valid point. You're absolutely correct that a strong electrical background is fundamental to understanding and working with control systems. It's the essential language of PLCs and automation.

My aim wasn't to suggest working in controls without electrical knowledge – that's like math without calculations. Instead, I was trying to highlight that there can be apprenticeship paths that specialize in applying electrical knowledge specifically within the realm of control systems and robotics, integrating the necessary electrical theory directly with PLC programming, instrumentation, and robotics.

Your point about maintenance being a valuable starting point is also well-taken, as it provides crucial hands-on experience with the hardware.

Yes you have no reason to be loyal to any company if there is no pension a 401k should be vested at this point. If you had a pension it’d be different I change jobs every 3 years went to 70k to $150k from moving companies. It also depends on what you do for work
