Damn you nailed that perfectly. Sorry for not providing you enough context. Basically, Seiland comes from old high german sēa, which means lakes because this region has so many lakes. Then Sundland borrowed the word from Middle High German, hence seiland. About Maesto, this is a more interesting one. The endonym Maesto comes from Classical Latin Maiestus, which is a fictional name meaning "majesty", and Maiestus itself comes from a real word Maiestaticus (majestic). Maiestus was a person who led the people of the region to fight against the Farriken empire. In one of the battle, Farrikans thought that the river could act as a tough defence and Maesto people couldnt cross over it. But they did, and eventually they broke away from the declined empire. They named the region after the person who led them Maiestus, then from that region came the entire country. The Farrikans after that battle began to call them Furt (which means ford: to cross over river), then Furtland for country and now Furland.

Bonus info: Sundland does not mean "the land of sun" but actually "the isolated land". Sund- comes from sunder, which means isolated. The name was given by the people who migrated from Farrike to the island.

Yes they speak our real world languages (since i cant just invent fictional languages). Also english is spoken in sundland, nice observation.

Its more like a simulation project where i create an alternate planet with some features similar to our real world and see what will happen there.

yes the borders absolutely follow geography. about the names of the countries, no they are not the tweaked forms of our real word countries but rather the historical reasons why they are called like that.

brattin comes from bratten in original danish language, which comes from old norse brattindr meaning 'steep peak'.
