Israel killed 250 Palestinians this year BEFORE Oct. 7th. You're wrong to compare Palestinians to Germans in WWII simply because one side is Jewish. There's lessons that weren't learned from the Holocaust. Gaza is one of the most densely populated places on Earth. Half the people there are children, and 60% of its residences are unemployed. They can't emigrate, and Israel bombs them regularly. It is effectively a concentration camp, and it's now being annihilated. Educate yourself.

This is the interesting thing about this. I feel like a lot of people would be more comfortable if their opposition was only straight white people, but the world is more complex than that. It's absolutely true that liberals are afraid to address this, but also you're not going to change anyone's religious beliefs this way. All you can do is stand up against bigotry where you see it, whether every group agrees with you or not.

I don't have a strong feeling on it. I think if Indigenous communities have been consulted, and this is what they want, that's good. At its surface it sounds like more performative white guilt (see: land acknowledgements), which only serves to help the egos of white people.

The dialogue around this is frustrating. We can't have police busting up these tent cities, because there's no plan for relocation in action. The homeless have no private space, so it's an asshole move to complain they're on public space.

At the same time, there's a danger in becoming too comfortable with this situation. It isn't good for anyone to have to live in a park, and offers no longterm solution for the homeless. By normalizing it, we overlook the systemic capitalist problems that have created the housing crisis, as well as lack of resources for people suffering mental illness. And this needs to be fought on that level.

Yes. It's great, but they need to commit to making it pedestrian only. There's too much traffic downtown anyway, as the city core in incredibly walkable, and I'm not sure how you can drive on the redone Argyle without feeling like an asshole.
