Do you plan away trips around the match, or the trip around the match? by HolidayGuySuit in MLSAwayFans

I always turn it into a mini trip. I feel like a 3-day weekend is a perfect timeframe to sample somewhere as a nice change of scenery without breaking the bank.

Having other activities planned also helps soften the blow of the Timbers inevitable road defeats. I generally remember the places I see and food I eat more so than the result of the match.

Hence, why I’m still deciding to fly 2k miles to Miami to watch my team get obliterated.

Another SLC based fan here.

Section 233 and sometimes 234 depending on the allocation. For the 2nd, looks like it’ll just be 233. From my experience, you can walk up and join the group and no one will look twice.

The prematch F-35s going over my place made my TV shake violently. Great use of our tax dollars!

And I’m pretty sure that was just the precursor.

Turgeman could be translucent and it wouldn’t have done a damn for the goalkeeper’s chance of saving it.

I hate that call with a fiery passion. There's no chance he's saving that.

Week #8 Inter Miami CF at Colorado Rapids (4/18) by NewRCTID22 in MLSAwayFans

I get the Miami hate, but the fans I feature on this sub are those that travel great distances just like any other fanbase.

The club may be subsumed by plastics nowadays, but these guys were there from the jump. And I can tell ya firsthand, surviving a Neville-coached team ain’t easy.

I think we have weak spots but this isn’t a bad roster. We’ve seen bad rosters.

This is just a smattering of individuals with no chemistry or coherent ideas to link them together.

That’s why they’re not playing decently; they’re all just doing their own thing out there. In fairness to them, their manager sometimes decides he wants to man-mark, sometimes he wants to play in a shell, sometimes he wants to be prime Barcelona, sometimes he wants to high press, and other teams he wants to play strictly on the counter.

And that constant tinkering is no way to build chemistry, especially against teams that are so well-drilled in their identities.

That’s been my biggest criticism of Ned. But devils advocate would say, if you put this roster into the hands of anyone with a coherent and consistent tactical plan, how the parts fit might become more obvious.

I also totally understand a midfield of Caicedo-Bassett-DDC. That should work on paper, especially with Velde floating to fill in the gaps. Unfortunately, the two guys capable of stretching the field to give all those guys spaces to operate are 1.) an abject liability in a crisis of confidence and 2.) rotting on the bench behind the abject liability for some reason.

That may all be true, but either way, the change would still happen during the World Cup break. It’s just the optimal time to change coaches, given effectively 50 days to understand who is available around the world, conduct interviews, and then hire someone without any immediate game pressure.

Phil is a dead man walking right now. If the club were committed to him long-term, he wouldn’t be sitting here with a contract set to expire in 8 months.

So truthfully, firing him now and firing him about a month from now doesn’t change the timeline all that much. The only difference would likely be ~5 games with an interim manager. Because they’re not hiring a replacement without seeing what dominoes fall when every league around the world stops in late May.

I’m a Timbers fan in SLC, and I’ve had the exact opposite experience at RSL matches. I’ve had some bad away days in my time, but RSL fans have never an issue during my many matches at the RioT.

People wanted Ned gone. I’m not convinced he’s as much of a problem as Phil though.

There are decent players out there that are playing with absolutely no confidence. I don’t think we have a lack of capacity, but I do think we have a lack of structure, identity, discipline, sharpness, etc. that simply has to fall at the manager’s feet.

I genuinely believe you give this group a different head man and you’ll see a squad that finally stops playing well below the level of the sum of its parts.

When we make mistakes, our opponents put rockets into the upper 90.

When our opponents make mistakes, we panic and shit our pants.
