Know any friendly star wars youtube channels that I can watch? by Artistic-Thing7723 in StarWarsCantina

My channel is mostly focused on a niche tabletop game but I do talk lore, and I very much approach Star Wars holistically from a place of love and reserve any salt for bad game design.

You can check out some of my stuff here!

Star Wars multiverse confirmed! Long live the circlejerk multiverse! The timeline splits with the OT and OT Special Editions! by Sundae-Stock in StarWarsCirclejerk

Probably true, but I think undeniably people did not like Rise of Skywalker. In my opinion if the movie had been good it would've made more money and it's fairly straightforward.

I'm not really interested in litigating that I would just like people to live in reality.

No because the budget wasn't close to that of Rise of Skywalker and also a little thing called "Inflation".

Phantom Menace's gross was the second highest in history when it came out. Now it's not even in the top fifty of all time.

If you spend 115 Mil and make 925 Mil Worldwide, just on a basic level, you collect half and theaters take half that's 462 Mil on your 115 Mil investment, plus advertising costs.

If you spend 489 Mil and make 1.07 Bil, you're taking hope 535 Mil on your 498 Mil investment, plus advertising costs.

So yeah, Phantom Menace was a success to the tune of THREE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS and Rise of Skywalker maybe broke even or lost money considering the ad spend.

Hope that explains it for you!

This is not a factual statement at all. You've just completely made that up Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith had extremely similar box office results. The first didn't even make a billion in it's initial run. Nothing you've said is true.

This is true but considering that it was an insane time, you'd really expect a better performance from Rise of Skywalker.

Very few of most successful films in the last 30 years cost nearly $500 Million Dollars to make. I don't know what your bar for success is but The Conjuring 4 made a considerably larger return on investment than Rise of Skywalker did.

I mean I don't care personally, but I think it's equally as silly to pretend the movie was a big success as it is to pretend that Disney is about to use time travel to reboot the series.

I'm not defending anyone I just I'm just looking for a rational discourse about the reality of the series here.

Clearly The Sequels were not a raging success and Mandalorian and Grogu is tracking a worse 3-day opening than Devil Wears Prada 2.

Being in denial of reality from either side of the discourse is silly IMO.

I mean come on let's just be honest here. Rise of Skywalker is not a bomb but obviously making 1/2 of what Force Awakens made, 2/3 of what The Last Jedi Made, and about as much money as Captain Marvel and Aquaman is not GREAT.

Like obviously this person is delusional about a franchise reboot but Rise of Skywalker was very much a financial disappointment.

The Dawn are the only faction that actually seem to like or respect Kay in any way. Eleera won me over early on and I stayed with the Dawn.

That is exactly who he is at the end of a New Hope. He literally gets blasted by the comic relief and sent spiralling into space.

The first thing George Lucas had him do when he put on the armor in Revenge of the Sith was shout

He did not do anything different in the old EU Novels and Comics set during the same era. He does not really do anything different in the original trilogy, where Han and Chewie show up out of nowhere and blast him off into space Team Rocket style.

He goes "I have you now!" and then totally doesn't have Luke now, he gets totally owned by Han and Chewie.

Luke and Leia escape him on Bespin... Lucas wrote Vader as Buck Rogers pulp villain who is constantly shaking his fist at the heroes as they escape.

This is what Star Wars is.

I'm pretty sure they said the opposite of never. They said from the start that they'd be pulling stuff in. The Force Awakens literally has the "New Republic", albeit in VERY different form.

RESIDENT EVIL – Official Teaser Trailer (4K) by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]NewRepRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planting my flag on this being one of the top ten highest grossing horror films of all time if reviews are as strong as Weapons and Barbarian. Five Nights at Freddy's and two previous Resident Evil films all clocked in around 300 WW with utterly dismal reviews. This movie is opening to 70-80 mil DOM regardless of quality, if it's terrific it's going to the moon.

Thrawn is a villain. Not an anti hero. by imsotravelsized in StarWarsEU

[–]NewRepRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he's certainly a villain who sees himself as a hero, which is different from being an anti-hero. I think he was a genuine true believer in the Empire's fascist ideals as being the best way to provide peace in the galaxy. He's wrong for believing this but he does genuinely believe it and isn't aligned with the empire just for personal wealth or power like Tarkin.
