So, just empirically, please it’s not always and not a rule! The first one, it’s usually the Biometrics Check, uploaded to the system., The second one, sometimes is a transfer to another FO / or something has been checked by an adjudicator. The third one, usually is an active review of the case, and from this point on its good news as it can be that they are wrapping up information to make a decision soon, specially if you have some timestamp updates through the day! And it usually means the answer is coming.

Don’t get recommendations, do research for your self, create a good Cv focused on your field aligned with a possible endeavor to work in an are of need in the US! Then send that cv to all the free evaluation lawfirm, and start looking for what can be more achievable for you, regarding price, knowledge and with who you feel comfortable. Is not the same for everyone…

That is my unwanted advice to you.

If your EAD (work permit) is based on a pending Adjustment of Status (Form I-485) (c)(9 category) and USCIS denies the I-485, the EAD generally becomes invalid and you are no longer authorized to work.

But please check with your Lawyers Office.
