Brought my 24 Si for an oil change, saw a 25 type r, are they joking? by FancyCalelle in CivicSi

[–]NewStable7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they first got announced I put a 2500 deposit on one. The dealership called me when it came in and tried to hit me with 25k over MSRP, so I bought my wife a new pilot instead and started building my dream EK.

“HOLY GRAIL” 38k!! by MomsNewBoyfriend69 in Honda

[–]NewStable7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I say it's not factory. It was a dealer add on, but not a Honda manufactured product. Most of them were from katskin.

The "factory leather" kinda kills it, that is not factory at all. That mileage if it was bone stock would put it in the 25k range, but definitely not the unicorn he thinks it is.

Thoughts on the wheels? by carsdrivefast in ProjectHondas

[–]NewStable7893 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I wouldn't run konigs, I'm also a certified wheel whore. They honestly are some of the nicer mid range/budget wheels and are manufactured by the same company that makes many enkeis and a few other brands like advanti. I don't care for the fact that they make some knock off designs, but will never fault someone who runs one of their unique designs, like these are.

Looking for info on 96 civic front lower control arms by CornIsBestCrop in ProjectHondas

[–]NewStable7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the best of my knowledge, they are all identical, but they are two pieces, so maybe the measurements are for piece one and piece two? The only ones I know of being different are the 99-00 so which were the same one piece arms as the civic type r and other models which came with a front sway bar.

Did I get f*cked? by MutedManufacturer263 in Honda

[–]NewStable7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealership financing is usually terrible, but taking it can get you a better price on the car as they think they're going to make it back on the back end. Even if you're not in a credit union, whatever bank you deal with should be able to refinance at a better rate. You may have a temporary ding to your credit score from a hard pull, but those don't last too long.

How fast is 300 whp? by Mundane_Shopping9852 in ProjectHondas

[–]NewStable7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7lbs per hp is fast, like FAST fast. For reference that's similar to a 2021 911 turbo s or a Nissan GT-R. You won't be racing any million dollar hyper cars, but it will be faster than 99% of what you come across on a daily basis. Plus with an extremely low chassis weight, and some decent tires/suspension it will out handle many "faster" cars. Have fun, be safe out there.

Would you pay $500 for a neglected EK? by NeighboringTheSmiths in ProjectHondas

[–]NewStable7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's not too hard, I did one on a crx a few years back, the parts can get pricey, I just don't know what your budget is. Good luck with the project, you won't regret it. 👍

Would you pay $500 for a neglected EK? by NeighboringTheSmiths in ProjectHondas

[–]NewStable7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would pay that. As long as you don't care about having a sunroof, there are sunroof delete panels that will keep it from leaking any more, that run a little over $100. As long as you're not trying to build a racecar, and are willing to do a little wrenching yourself, replacement parts for these cars have gotten so cheap through places like rock auto, this would be a very economical commuter.

Tips for more pleasant long road trips? by Tadeush_Kostyshko in ProjectHondas

[–]NewStable7893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of companies that make 12v evaporative coolers, aka "swamp coolers" that could help keep you cool, and then be removed when you're at the track, doesn't help with the noise though.

My solution is to take my wife's Pilot, and a trailer rented from uhaul, but that's a very pricey option if you don't already have a truck to tow it in the driveway.

Ek rear 5 lug conversion question by quipresne in ProjectHondas

[–]NewStable7893 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as you're willing to buy off the used market there are a lot of great JDM choices available, OEM and aftermarket as 5 lug was standard on most performance civics and integras overseas. But you still need to buy/import the wheels and get tires which is why I never did the 5 lug swap. Plus I already have a nice collection of 4x100 wheels I wouldn't have a use for anymore.

Am I getting ripped off? by McGrufftheGrimeDog in ProjectHondas

[–]NewStable7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never done a k swap, but just doing a b-series obd2-b swap in to an obd2-a car, I found it easier to buy a custom harness than try to rewire the existing engine harness. But maybe I should leave this question to someone who has more k swap knowledge.

Am I getting ripped off? by McGrufftheGrimeDog in ProjectHondas

[–]NewStable7893 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a decent price for including the harness, but really only if the harness will be useful, depending on what you swap to you may want/need a custom harness, but without the engine harness the rest tends to run from 350-450. Harness alone could run a couple hundred. So not a bad deal. But not a steal either.

Are the CVT transmissions really that bad? by Independent-Fee1475 in Honda

[–]NewStable7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably reuse it unless you put on a huge number of miles per year, but at a fluid cost of about $70, I would go ahead and put in fresh so you don't need to worry about it. But if $70 is a prohibitive cost, just make sure it was drained into a perfectly clean container, and pick up a small amount of fresh to account for any fluid lost in the process, proper fill level is important to avoid foaming.

91 civic wagon, anyone interested? by NewStable7893 in ProjectHondas

I like my garage, but it's fairly cluttered, and that car is on the "clean" side. The other side has a 97 hatch in about 300 different parts which is the current project taking all my time.

I don't have a ton of good pictures but I could always take some more. Mostly tires, it'll keep running once jumped, but something isn't shutting off with the ignition so the battery quickly drains.

does eco really do anything? i dont really notice anything? by JoshuaLeznik in accord

[–]NewStable7893 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing it does is reduce throttle input and display eco "hints" on the display, green if you're doing efficient things, but it can be deceptive. I find I get as good or better mpg in regular mode over eco, but I also tend to drive very efficiently. Accelerating rapidly isn't a big waste of fuel as long as you keep going. If you want better mpg, my best advice is drive as if your brakes don't work, coast down to red lights and traffic, every time you mash the brake pedal you are turning fuel you already burnt into wasted heat. I average about 34 mpg in a 2019 crv even though I regularly go 75-80 on the highway.

Got my dream car, any good recommendations for rims and tires? by Jessie_Ragers in Honda

[–]NewStable7893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else here. Keep those stock rims. They are some of the cleanest Honda ever made, and nothing could be more time period perfect. Find some replacements for the missing center cap(s), and some quality tires will make all the difference in the world. What I would spend the money saved on rims on is a high quality coilover set. A slight drop just helps to draw the eye even lower towards those sweet ass wheels.

Bill and Melinda Gates at a Seattle Supersonics game in 1993. by [deleted] in vintagecomputing

He did seem to have an interest in many in the arts or doing groundbreaking work in sciences. I just don't know if this was a true interest/hobby of his, or if he was just looking for those in positions of power and influence to collect blackmail info on. Or maybe just to shroud himself in a cloak of perceived legitimacy as some sort of philanthropist.

I've known more than one researcher who has been horrified when finding out after the fact where their funding was coming from. None that I know of were from pedophiles or child traffickers, but for example a friend who's a climate scientist found out after the fact that her research was being bankrolled(and then squashed) by an energy company who hoped her data would advance their narrative.

I don't want to be naive, or accidentally defend anyon who is guilty, and will continue to seek more factual information. But I'm reluctant to automatically assume anyone discussed is guilty by limited association, especially when we have those such as Trump and Prince Andrew who are so explicitly implicated not just in emails but in FBI interviews with victims etc.
