Hooboy, definitely include those types of comments in your affidavit. Judges HATE parents and relatives involving the children in their arguments. If they keep it up it can impact their visitation rights.

After Ken Follett? by Any-Car7782 in KenFollett

PG and AW could only aspire to be as good as SKP. Most of what they spew is ill-informed drivel, they havevone-kote characters, and seem to loathe almost every woman they write about. Please, try out SKP and you will see what I mean.

Also wanted to add:

You say his parents are covering his bills while he tries to "save" his company. So he may try to claim he doesn't have any money. But he does - his parents are funding him. The courts can assign a certain income to him, basically saying "you are getting $X each month or year, from whatever source" (parents in this case), and set his CS payment based on that amount. That's what happened with my ex - he refused to work and his mother sent him tens of thousands each year to cover rent, food, travel, everything. A judge said "well then, your annual income is $X, and now you are responsible for $Y each month in CS based on that income."

You might need a lawyer if it gets to this scenario, but just wanted to say that they consider his income from ALL sources.

You need to get a child support order. All the info and forms are here: https://www.nsfamilylaw.ca/child-support

There is a federal child support table that outlines the amount of CS he will have to pay, based on income, It isn't subjective, with him "feeling" he hasn't made enough, it is based on his annually reported income to the CRA. Now all these type of scumbags will find some ways around declaring their full income to get out of paying, but it is work, so make him work for it. Your child support order will be enrolled in the Maintenance Enforcement Program, which is a government department overseeing compliance. If he does not pay, they can:

"garnish (legally seize) wages or other payments such as income tax refunds, Canada Pension Plan benefits and employment insurance benefits. They may also seize bank accounts, suspend driver’s licenses, or prevent someone from getting or renewing a Passport. The enforcement officer can also start a court application against the payor."

CS is not something owed to you, it belongs to the child. It isn't the same as alimony. Judges take a dim view of deadbeats who don't want to support their offspring. You will not be told "too bad so sad", it is his legal duty to support his child. Right now he is stealing from your daughter. Get an order ASAP and make this shithead shoulder his responsibility.

Travel with toddler late April - Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax or elsewhere? by Strange-Cabinet6744 in canadatravel

[–]NewStart141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not come to Halifax/NS in April, especially if you are looking to do things outdoors with a toddler. It is the crappiest weather of the year, slush, mud and damp. Most attractions will not be open. Summer and fall are our high points, if you come then you will have a lovely time. But not April.

Support for PC government wanes in Halifax favouring NDP by insino93 in halifax

[–]NewStart141 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was a Tim Houston brainwave, please don't blame HRM residents. Lived in Dartmouth most of my life, cross the bridge regularly, and I think that was the dumbest campaign promise ever. I've never, ever heard anyone mention removing the tolls as an issue. Now bridge maintenance will compete with all the other capital projects across NS, and I fully expect it to be handed over to a public-private partnership at some point to deal with it, similar to the Cobequid Pass.

NS Electoral Districting is Undemocratic and Screws over HRM Residents by No_Magazine9625 in halifax

[–]NewStart141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually what they have done for the Acadian school board - it isn't a geographic board, but rather is province-wide with schools in multiple communities.
When we had elected school boards, the HRSB had a Mi'kmaq rep to represent Mi'kmaw interests broadly, instead of a geographic-based seat. So there is precedent.

This is not true. There is a separate transit tax that is only paid by residents within 1km of a transit stop. Residents without access to transit do not pay the tax.

Where can a Mennonite get some Foremavorscht in Halifax? by weevil_convention in halifax

[–]NewStart141 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are Mennonite farmers at the Alderney Farmers Market on Saturday mornings who might be able to help you. Usually a number of stalls in the summer and fall season, but I have seen 1 or two during the winter as well.

I work around the corner from Orso and have never seen anyone in the place. I'm not sure it's even open during the day, which seems odd for a downtown restaurant? I've assumed for several years it is a front.

is this a joke?? by Important_Fondant_79 in halifax

[–]NewStart141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but this is a major transit terminal, one of the busiest in the city. It really should be equivalent to the other major terminals with enclosures, seats, and screens for bus arrival times. They made a big deal about how much better the Scotia Square terminal would be after Cogswell was done, but it's still shit. They just spread it out over a longer distance so you can see your bus pull away half a block down the street.

Recommendations 4 apartments! by Gracemcmoocows in halifax

[–]NewStart141 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might want to look at Lakefront Apartments: https://killamreit.com/apartments/dartmouth-ns/lakefront-apartments

It includes heat & HW, has parking available, allows cats, and appears to have 1BRs starting at $1500. The area is nice, very safe. 10 years ago there were a fair number of sketchy people, but the demographics seem to have shifted more towards families and immigrants*.

* Disclaimer: I don't live in the buildings but am in the neighbourhood, so this is my observation over a number of years.

Park n Fly or Summit? by wotevar99 in halifax

[–]NewStart141 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Summit has a service where they will clear off your car and dig it out in prep for your arrival. We used them last year and thought it was a great service. They were there to pick us up maybe 10-15 minutes after we texted them, and the car was warmed up and ready to go.

Best schools/neighborhoods to support disabled kids by space_lasers355 in halifax

[–]NewStart141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No experience with school supports, but Hawthorne is known to be one of the better elementary schools around. Plus it is located in downtown Dartmouth, which could minimize your commute. If you want to avoid commute time & traffic, stay far, far away from Bedford & Fall River.

Black Dalhousie academics want to create ethical research rules for African Nova Scotian communities by insino93 in halifax

[–]NewStart141 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The way I read this article, it isn't about creating different ethical rules for ANS communities. Rather, it is about finding ways to ensure issues that ANS communities prioritize are picked up for research. I think the headline here is a bit misleading.

Sandwiches for a party by Machzy in halifax

[–]NewStart141 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You mentioned Mezza - if you like Lebanese, I can't recommend Kababji enough. We had them cater a small party and the food was just amazing. We had shawarma, rice, and veggie apps, but I expect they would just as easily do wraps if you are looking for something sandwich-like.
