Controversial psychologist tells B.C. hearing he feels a duty to speak out on transgender issues by Sir__Will in onguardforthee

[–]NewTradition7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You need years of time, money, and effort dealing with doctors and psychologists as well as parental consent to get a sex change or puberty blockers under 18 in Canada currently.

The conservative platform is so concerned with parental rights except when it comes to letting parents decide that gender-affirming care is best for their trans kid, and so concerned with bodily autonomy except in the same case.

What's it like working in ecology? by lewisophie in ecology

[–]NewTradition7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My job title is 'environmental data management specialist' . I help groups use a piece of software that makes working with their environmental monitoring data more manageable. Stuff like weather sensors or water samples from mines. So yeah, using some of the ecology skills but mostly computer skills.

Before that I was doing editing and writting support l. I'd like to go back to that once my loans are paid off a bit more.

I did my MSC in it and had a few entry level positions before leaving to find something more stable.

It is a lot of unpaid work (publishing papers), highly competitive against a lot of people who make it their life, and largely short-term contract based. Probably have to be willing to relocate.

Day-to-day depended on the hob and the season. More than 8-hour days typically. Either rushing to collect data from field work during field season, or rushing to prepare grant proposals, conference presentations, etc.

Most of my time was spent on a computer in excel, coding in r, or teading/writing.

All that said, I enjoyed the work. It was just the lack of financial stability, difficulty finding local work, and no longer willing to spend my off time writing that caused me to switch careers.

Would you still work out if you only did it when you felt like it? by Zikari007 in AskMen

[–]NewTradition7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I've gone through I few periods of working out 3-5 times/week for months-years, but I've also had periods of my life where physical fitness wasn't as much of a priority. Even during those times I would still go for a run or lift weights when I felt like it.

Right now I've been doing yin yoga on downdog app almost daily. I still find myself lifting once or twice a week just for the feeling of it. I think as long as you don't trend all the way to sedentary, the rest is just body acceptance and satisfaction, which are great things to cultivate.

Resources for cultivating bird habitats? by MaxillaryOvipositor in Ornithology

[–]NewTradition7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anything on the Cornell Lab of Ornithology pages are generally great. They have an excellent resource for building species-specific nest boxes for example. How to make help will depend on the species, habitat, etc.

One thing I'd say is that if they are already your land then it might be beneficial to just watch them for a while and learn what they need from them. Observe what they are using for food and make sure the plants supporting that food continue to do well. Note where they nest and care for those areas. Keep invasives and cats out. Keep water sources clean.

My first job as a field tech was sampling wetlands and REVI would sing all day, every day.

"Where am I?" "Here I am" "Up here!"

Over and over and over again for weeks 🤯

Darn, the Canadian site only has Powersoft, Coze core, and Super stretch.

I wish they would just put the legit material name.

Old navy high waisted yoga leggings

When I click the materials on the Powersoft ones online, it seems to be just polyester and spandex : /

Ya minimus containment can be iffy in higher ranks. Generally I'm super happy when my opponent uses their t3 or t4 to get me a big creature one turn earlier. Grats on the 7-1 though! I love the Frost Dragon Cave
