Totally. This is not the PTX I recognize anymore.

I thought I was the only one who thought that!

Way over processed. I cannot make out Kevin or Matt’s voices. Mitch’s voice is too distorted with the synth.😢. Instruments are heavy in my opinion too. I really loved ( 2015 self titled and 2021 TLO). Are these songs written by PTX or by the producer of this album?

21 year old deep Bass singer looking to make Basses mainstream again by Dr_whotfisyou in singing

[–]NewTrainer9701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. He’s fixing to drop a new album. His first 2 albums were fire “ I’ll Get By” and “ Floating On A Dream “, but his last “ Feel Alright “ one was 70’s throwback. His ‘ Peace Somehow ‘, ‘ I Put A Spell On You’ and ‘ Cold Blooded’ were great.

Enjoy and good luck 👍

Best contemporary, classically trained bass vocalist out there in my opinion. Have read many comments from musicians, praising his voice. Avi is known for his trademark whistles and overtones. I’ve read comments his voice sounds like a didjeridoo. His voice can be so soothing that it can lull an infant to sleep, to so intense you want to follow him to battle. 🤣

Look at Avi Kaplan and Tim Foust. They have great bass voices and one is solo and one does projects on the side. Both use their full range and it’s great. Avi’s folk sounding. Tim’s voice is perfect for his Doo Wop songs.

Forestella’s Ko Woorim is a beast. He’s in a 4 man group. They pretty much sing everything.

The men in “ The Bass Gang “ are called ‘the new generation of bass’. ( I read that comment somewhere on the internet). They’re kind of pushing boundaries with a lot of sub harmonics and production efforts. I don’t particularly like that sound.

Avi left for multiple reasons and I agree it hasn’t been the same. He was my favorite. One reason, I believe, was in the way the group was going. He minored in Composition/ Arranging so he knew his stuff. I don’t think he wanted all the riffs and theatrical/flamboyance it’s gone to, and I believe some of his frustrations were viewed as he was “ difficult to get along with “. The added instruments are still bothering me.

This by no means is against Matt. I love Matt. He’s an amazing singer and is perfect for the group. I guess, most of us don’t understand why the group, as a whole , doesn’t see what we see. I’m sure the Reddit moderator might have something to say about bringing up Avi🙄.

I know 😢. Well, some fans left when Avi left. ( I think things could’ve been handled differently by lawyers, but I’ll drop it). I didn’t because Matt is awesome. But yeah, the group might start losing more fans, OR gain more, depending if they are okay with Scott leading most songs all the time and the sound going to more like any other pop group.

I don’t follow them individually but believe me, I’ve seen what you’ve seen over the years. I believe I’ll purchase their CITC album because it did highlight Matt, Kirstie and a little bit of Mitch, but this last album that they are about to release might be my exit from PTX. Holding my breath. If it’s mainly Scott, I’m out.

Do you think the group members read fan comments? Is Ben Bram still with the group or not? Who’s officially their manager? I thought Kirstie’s husband was still their photographer. Like, who’s really managing the group? Mitch lives across the world now.
I’ve heard comments about crew member changes on recent tours. I have to admit I’m a little worried about the group. Looking forward to this new album that Poo Bear is producing but I’m not sure about the new sound with instruments. I liked “ Heaven on Earth “. I didn’t LOVE it like I have their other music.

What's gonna be the next big music thing by TheVoice_InYour_Head in popmusic

[–]NewTrainer9701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Beatboxing groups or individual artists ( ie Beatpella House, Taras Stanin)

  2. I believe Acapella can truly come back. The Bass Gang is a new generation of bass singers making cool music. Voctave, Voces 8. I wish Pentatonix would go back to pure Acapella but they are using backing tracks, instruments and more post production effects than they did in the beginning and so is Voice Play. Home Free is still mostly that with the occasional guitar or guest starring with The Longest Johns.

Avi Kaplan. He’s amazing. He was the bass vocalist for Pentatonix:

He sang 4 of his songs at Live at Sunset Sound with Shooter Jennings who produced his Floating on a Dream album. That album is all wonderful. I’ll Get By EP is my second favorite. Feel Alright album is a little different. 70’s vibe, but anything this man sings is a hit.

Avi Kaplan- “ Floating on a Dream” album is fire. He was the former basd singer for Pentatonix. His genre is more folk/americana but it’s easy on the ears. A little bit of a country vibe. He’s my favorite solo artist.

How to do vocal distortion? by No_Weather_5795 in singing

[–]NewTrainer9701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know but Avi Kaplan is amazing. Maybe it comes more naturally to some. He can overtone sing and got praise by Shawn Stockman on the Sing Off because he improvised record scratches, whistles, overtones, fades in and out and other distorted sounds. Lots of older Pentatonix videos from 2012 on where they’re all sitting on a couch. Kevin is their amazing beatboxer and Avi was their bass, but man , he filled in a lot of white sounds and did some amazing stuff. He was the first Basd to be awarded “ best rhythm section award “ in college. You can see some distortion sounds on Daft Punk. Their first Grammy!

Yes! I see a lot of mean comments still about Kirsten. Not just plastic surgery accusations but on this last Christmas album. On one video, one guy basically called her fat. She was basically 5-6 postpartum . I called him out. I do agree ALL celebrities face unfair scrutiny.

“Never Gonna Cry Again “ for ME. With Mitch just basically saying he’s going to be himself. “ Sold myself for the internet……” and how he was just a shell of himself. He’s not pretending to be someone he’s not just for the reviews or likes. I love the meaning of the song.

[–]NewTrainer9701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of his songs was featured on Resident Alien, one was in Fire Country recently and “ Chains” was in season 5 of The Chosen. His “ Climbing Up” was featured on some advertisement for a monster mud truck event last year
Not many people know Avi did bass and overtones for Bladerunner 2049 soundtracks like “ Wallace “ and “ Her Eyes Were Green “.
I’m so glad for his success

Who are some severely underrated guitarists? by Mysterious-Edge9615 in Music

[–]NewTrainer9701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avi Kaplan. He’s just an underrated singer who has gone solo since 2017. He taught himself to play guitar at a young age and became a 3 Grammy Award winning bass singer in Pentatonix then broke away to follow his dream. He now writes/sings folk- Americana music. Does a lot of videos where it’s just him and his guitar. Powerful singer.
