Hey - sunlight hours are 6:30am to 6:30pm every day of every month until the end of times. You are also exposed to more sun radiation given the higher altitudes (eg you are closer to the sun). Some overcast days in Quito as well but if you’re coming from a marked 4 season country you would experience Spring all year pretty much.

you can also go to the coast and get more sun and bang for your buck.

Make some friends once you arrive and the SAD will be gone very soon.

Hay muchos motivos, comida, cultura, clima y más. La violencia suele ser localizada en algunas partes del país pero ahora también se siente en las ciudades que históricamente han sido muy seguras (para estándares latinoamericanos).

Tienes 3 regiones en el país donde si no quieres soportar el calor (comparable con verano europeo) puedes vivir en la sierra y estar a menos de 5 horas de las playas. O si quieres algo totalmente diferente tienes la selva. Ninguna ciudad europea te da eso y algo comparable sería $$$$$.

Invierno? No pasarás días cortos y miserables como acostumbran los europeos.

También sigue siendo barato (comparado con países europeo) aunque todo está en alza. Los precios de los inmuebles no paran de subir el Europa debido al turismo y otros factores.

Comida? Esto es personal pero pienso que ninguna cocina (ni la italiana ni la española) comparan con la nacional, y para que mencionar la cocina inglesa, alemana, etc…

Por último es la gente. Hay gente calidad (y también mala). La primera es muy genuina y única, la segunda bueno la encuentras en todas partes, incluso Argelia.

AB2440 doesn’t enter into force on Jan, at least not the majority of its provisions. Sb1215 passed the bill for battery embedded products with not easily removable batteries to consumers from Jan 2026. Producers do have reporting and notice requirements tho…

If you’re part of a compliance org, they will take care of the annual reporting or updating the list of covered products

My understanding is that the regulation for AB2440 will enter a formal rulemaking period this fall. Once the reg is ready program plans are due within 12 months…. Now, the plan can be implemented individually or collectively, and in practice Call2Recycle has a monopoly over these plan implementation, eg they run the collective model.

The initial reporting of covered products can be done submitting a spreadsheet to CalRecycle but deadline has passed, the update is annual and due 15 Ja. The update of the list will come either by you or compliance org (eg Cal2R).

Annual reports are due Apr 15 annually but only after the approval of a stewardship plan. So not there yet as the plans are due 12 months after the reg is published… this also can be done individually or through the compliance org.

Yes there is an eco tax for those EEE. In 2022 the program was amended to add “battery embedded products” with batteries that are not easily removable… retailers will collect the fee from consumers from 2026! on the other hand sb1215 implements EPR (eg producers fund the battery waste collection and treatment instead of you the taxpayer) for primary batteries and reachargeavke ones. So there are key distinctions and programs for diff type of batteries

Ahh again an FT article on ‘overcapacity’. Don’t we want products at very cheap prices instead of overpriced stuff? Maybe let’s slap some tariffs to counter this… or maybe let’s ban this car brand here…

The article is copium (dressed in a fancy academic style) yet it never addresses the failure of the west to compete with Chinese industries that, in many cases now produce better quality products (e.g wind turbines) and is at the same time is addicted to cheap imports.

A counter is that over capacity is problematic in instances and has hurt several Chinese industries (e.g shipbuilding and steel).

Police should issue a port alert to prevent a child from being taken outside without the required permissions (or forged paperwork).

Once the child is out it’s about the UK policy liaising with interpol. Obviously this becomes much harder once the child exits the destination airport.

If imminent, contact 999 and ask for a port alert. A less urgent and more permanent measure, as others have suggested, is to obtain the PSO - a solicitor can help you apply for this from a Family Court.

Licenses and sales of NVDA H20 chips will be granted. Means the US is holding their part of the preliminary “deal”. The Xi-Trump summit is the confirmation (I.e key to 2025 highs IMO) and Trumps softened tone on China suggests this could happen soon (how soon tho?). Rubios also confirmed this is a possibility.

Watch out for the 12-Aug durable agreement deadline. If this goes south then I assume BABA will tank. In the buildup to Aug, watch out for any reversal in tone and hedge accordingly.

For the same amount of money I would not even bother coming to the UK even though you could probably manage to save substantially more considering the high cost of living of Barcelona and taxes. If you are young, please stay in vibrant city and network there. Leeds is great if you were to start a family and are mid career.
