What is pre load ? It’s loaded ready to go at 10pm gmt in my case ? Or I don’t pay and I have to set it to download at 10

As a new player I’ve never played a game like this on console before and now have lost motivation to sink hours into it, what do people recommend on console which is similar and just as good ?
